It appears that the federal marshall's spelling too keen as they went around collecting data. However, after I looked at the original census, it appears that it might have been the transcribers mistake, because if one knew her name was Lena, one could make out this 'e' instead of the 'o' that was chosen by the transcriber. Aug 1866 AR father b. TN/ mother b. Arkansas Mary Medlock 31 b. Jan 1868 AR been married 15 yrs = 1885 and has had five children with all living in 1900 Mary's parents both had been born in Arkansas William Medlock 13 b. Sep 1886 AR - here's Lena's father. Barnie Medlock 12 (son) Mar 1868 AR Abraham Medlock 10 Apr 1890 AR Frona Medlock 7 (transcriber has Frona, but original census has Leona) b. Jun 1893 AR Fannie Medlock 1 b. Feb 1899 So, again, someone screwed up on giving the correct information as to birth place for Isaac but obviously I found William's father in Arkansas, in 1900, where all his family was born and lived. Apparently by the federal marshall in 1900, William's father had given Tennessee as his father's birth place. Why an adaptation for a name which is easily seen and read as Leona made out as Frona, is beyond me!! Hope this helps you some!
