Especially since I read the reply you rec'd on this thread ...which mentions as follows: QUOTE: Andrew W. age 4 in the 1880 census listed as the brother in law of Newburn McClain and his wife Elizabeth. They are in Independence Co., Black River Twsp., Arkansas UNQUOTE This Newburn McCLAIN is a branch of my McLAIN line that came from WEakley County TEnnessee area ...some going to Independence Co ...my branch coming to Lawrence County, although a son Squire McLAIN & wife Melinda Caroline HARDIN is shown in 1870 in Lawrence Co in Black River Township. There are several people ---on the McLAIN line in AR & OK, and the McCLAIN line that was in Weakley Co TN and Independence Co AR--- that have participated in DNA project and we have proved to be related exactly on 67 marker matches the line of Charles McCLAIN b about 1784 NC and wife Elizabeth UNKnown that was in Weakley Co TN from about 1823 ...that Charles is the direct ancestor of some branches that came to various counties in Arkansas ... The SLAYTON, SLAYDEN, etc. line is one I haven't completely figured out, but my mother (b 1920 Newport, Jackson Co, AR to Audrey McLAIN & Robt E. WASHBURN) recalls her mother and her grandmother Clara COOPER McLAIN talking about an 'old lady SLAYDEN' ...Mother just doesn't know who she was. I did find a SLATEN, etc.marriage on my COOPER line ..that had settled in Monroe / St Francis County area starting about 1845, so perhaps it was on that line ...but I can see it could also have been on our McLAIN line. On the COOPER line, an Elsie SLATEN b June 1898 Missouri, died July 20 1986 Logan County AR (no parents found for her) where she and her spouse (mar about 1918) Ollie L. COOPER went. Ollie L. COOPER b May 15, 1895 Waldron, AR, d Sept 1981 Logan Co AR. He was the son of Benson H. COOPER and Mollie J. LAWSON. Benson "Ben" H. COOPER, b 1850 AR d 1921 Logan Co, was a brother of my gg grandfather Dillard L. COOPER b 1838 Spartanburg, THickety AR who came with their parents about 1845 to AR ..Benson G. COOPER and Delphia LINDSEY. I found Ollie L. COOPER and Elsie SLATEN while tracking Benson H. COOPER. They also had another brother ...John W.C. COOPER who married #2 to RAchel M. MARTIN and stayed in Monroe Co, Brinkley, AR ..and are buried their in Oaklawn Cemetery. (I was just there last month) Could be either line, since you say your Andrew Wells SLAYDEN lived in Jackson Co and Woodruff Co (Woodruff was part of Jackson Co earlier). My COOPERs, ANDERS (Andrews), HOUSE and MUNNS lines had land where Monroe Co touches Woodruff Co and St Francis Co ...a little north of Brinkley and also in / near Wheatley (the ANDERS land). If you want to know more about Newbern C. McLAIN and Elizabeth SLAYDEN, go to the TNWEAKLE Rootsweb mailing list (for Weakley Co TN) and post a query to PJ Thompson as he is related on her line....Newbern C. is the son of John McLAIN and Lydia WILLIAMS ...and John McLAIN was born to my gggg grandfather Charles McLAIN b 1784 NC and wife Elizabeth. John was a brother to my ggg grandfather Charles McLAIN who came before the 1850 census to Strawberry twp, Lawrence Co AR with his wife Perlina A. UNKNOWN.
