Carol, Thanks a lot for the lead in Cross County! That looks very promising. I haven't found where Edna was referred to as Amanda, but the date match makes it worth looking into. I have quite a bit of material on the VICKs and their descendants in Jackson, White, and Independence counties. Edna was one where I needed a new idea. Thanks again. I live in St. Louis, Mo. but have connections in Jackson Co. I searched and found Stephen B. Vick who married Mary E. Coffman 4 Aug. 1870 in White Co., Arkansas. According to the 1870 census, Stephen B. was the son of Turner A. Vick and Nancy C. The death index for Arkansas indicates that Stephen B. died 1 Feb 1916 in Independence Co., Arkansas--an adjoining county to Jackson. There is a son named Stephen Carland Vick born 8 Aug 1879 teaching school in Jackson Co. on the 1900 census. He married a Charlotte and by 1918 on the WW1 draft records is listed as a minister living in Bird Twsp., Jackson Co., Arkansas. By 1920, he is listed with several children. I have not been able to find an Edna Maye Vick who married a Hicks in any of the surrounding counties to Jackson. I did find an Amanda Hicks who died 24 October 1917 in Cross Co., Ar. Could this possibly be a nickname she used?? Hope some of this may be new information to you.
