Hi gang, The Newport Daily Independent is going to produce a new pictorial history book of Newport and Jackson County which commemorates the 20th century in Jackson County. Appropriately enough, the book will be titled "A Century of Celebration - Newport Daily Independent 1901-2001." They are taking orders for this book right now, as well as soliciting pictures from current and past residents of Jackson County. They are making the regular edition available for $19.95 + tax + postage to the first 500 customers ($29.95 afterwards.) The ad I'm looking at is from the September 7 paper, so I don't know what "today's" price would be. Also, a special limited leather-bound edition has been made available for $75 + tax + postage. They will also reserve a copy in your name for a $10 deposit (regular edition.) I suspect that the best thing to do, if interested, would be to call the Daily Independent at 870-523-5855. They produced a similar book, "Reflections - A Pictorial History of Jackson County," in 1996, and I thought it was rather well done - unfortunately you won't find a copy for sale anywhere.
