This is what I have found so far: 1880 census - Jemina Swan with son George A. Swan age 16 Bird Township, Jackson County AR. I think the chances are good George just might be the father of Arthur . . . Can't find George on any of the census reports. 1910 Census Bird Township, Jackson County, AR shows a Martha Swan 41 head of household with a daughter Minnie age 21 and a son Arthur age 16 born i nAR, the 1920 Census Bird Township, Jackson County AR shows Arthur married to Bulah with one daughter Agnes. Let me know if you think any of this fits with your Swans . . . Judy

The Swan family I was searching for lived around the Tuckerman area for years. I don't have much on them, and nothing on the Bakers. Arthur Swan was born in Tuckerman in 1895 and married Bulah Brown. They had the following children: Gladys, Agnes, Martha, Arthur and Bertha. Gladys married my dad in Jackson Co. AR in 1946. They later divorced. Like I said, I haven't gone back very far on the Swans, but if I come across anything that might help, I'll let you know.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RV.2ADI/305.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I am away from my files, but, what I do know is that my gg grandfather George Thomas Baker was married to Elizabeth Swan. She had a brother Matthew Swan and I believe their father was Edward Swan and that they were in TN at that time, could be Franklin County or Coffee County. My g grandfather was George Washington Baker, he was raised by someone other than his parents as they divorced and I can't find him on the census as a child with either of his parents. i think he may have been raised by a Swan and it seems that where ever he lived there was a Swan near him. In 1880 census he is in Jackson Cty, AR and I believe there is a Jacob Swan near him and that signed surety for him when he was appointed guardian over four Foley children. George W. Baker married Elizia Jones had three children with her and lived in Tuckerman area after 1880. I think that is where she died and he then married again, Elizabeth . .. in Woodruff County, AR and then they moved to Little River Ct! y, AR. But it seems there was always a Swan family living near by the Baker family. I am trying to determine who really raised George W. Baker .. . . Thank you for your help. I really don't know too much about the Swan's, I am just beginning to piece the story together, but, I bet you that your Swan is related to the bunch from Jackson County, AR .. . .
