    3. the marrige records of Jackson Co Ark have a marriage on10/2/1884 between a Holes, Adam A and a Flora Carter He is 47 and she is 21. I would suggest this might be y ours and you probably need to get the information from the county clerk to see how the last name was really spelled. The marriages where typed in by volunteers and it may have been misread. I do find a Flora Carter age 18 in 1880 cebsus in Cache towp Jackson co with her parents Ezekiel and Margaret and flora was born Ind. It is all online also. You can find the marriages etc on www.rootsweb.com?~arjacko..I would suspect these are your knowles and cater.. --- Audittaker@aol.com wrote: > What kind of info do you have on Jackson Co. 3. I am researching the "Whites" from the Arkansas and Oklahoma area. Do you have anymore info on Charles Edward White. Do you have the date of birth, marriage date, date of death, name of wife, name of children, etc. If you can give me something else to go by, I will look and see if it's the Charlie in my family. I hope I can be of some help. 1. [ARJACKSO] Help ... MATTIE (MARTHA) IRWIN .... M. GEORGE K. TOZER
    2. Bob and Karen Mulder
    3. Good morning Jackson County researchers! I have DEFINITELY hit a brick wall with my husband's grt grt grandmother, Martha (Mattie) Irwin who m. George K. Tozer in Cook County, Illinois, in 1860. The 1880 census confirms she was b. in Illinois ... The only record of that marriage is an index that was made by a gentleman named Fink AFTER all the records were burned in the Chicago fire. As I understand, the index was made largely from newspaper notices. I contacted the library and they reported that the article just announces the marriage and it is hardly readable. Due to the fire there are no birth records where I might find parents. I have SEARCHED AND SEARCHED the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census records ... and I do not find her or her family before OR after her marriage. Only the 1880 census ..... and she, husband and 2 daughters are in Newport, Jackson Co. She died a few after the census ... and I ASSUME she is buried there. But there are NO DEATH records as I understand. HAS ANYONE ANY CLUES AS TO MY NEXT STEP? I have rec'd some great help in the past ... and hope someone out there has a suggestions. THANKS in advance. Karen Mulder

I had a lead that they may have spent some time in Jackson County but that does not seem to be panning out. My great great grandfather was living in the Newport area when he died. His name was Holland Smith but everybody knew him as Duck Smith. His first wife (my great great grandmother) was named Effie Wilson. They divorced in 1913. She married a man with the surname of Holmes. I never knew his given name but a lady told me that he was from around Briarfork? She had a brother by the name of Floyd Wilson and also a nephew of the same name. I am starting to wonder if these two are one and the same person. Anyway Floyd married a woman named Zada Mead. They had 3 children together, 2 boys and a girl. When Floyd died (he was poisoned). Zada married a man with the surname of Owens. One of the sons was named NC Owens and died a few years back in Newport. I think that his! widow is still living. Effie had a brother whose name was Nard Wilson he died in 1924, he is the one who had the son named Floyd. I think that there may be a mix up. I thouht that our family had originated in Woodruff County but as it turns out they started out in White County so I have been on a wild goose chase for sometime now. Any help that you could give me I would greatly appreciate. Thank you so much. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
