My GG grandmother was Sarah Pleasant Furr who wed Francis Donahoe in LaSalle Co., Illinois in about 1860. Her dad was Newton Furr and he had come from Loudon Co., Virginia. His dad, I think, was Enoch Furr a revolutionary war veteran. A cousin Robert Furr had done a big history on this family and felt that all Furrs in the US were related. Where did these Jackson Co. Furrs come from? Bob Furr thought that the name may have originated in Scotland but the family legend my grandma held on to was that the Furrs were french huguenots who came to the US to escape religious persecution. She was sure the name was "le Furre". Good luck with your research! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My husband and I both remember that when his aunt took us to the cemetery for the very first time, there was a white building there, and Caroline Furr (Grantham) was buried near a tree that was fairly close to the building. Since then, we have been there several times and haven't found her stone, and she doesn't appear on cemetery surveys. However, her obituary stated that she was buried in Arnold Cemetery. I just wonder what happened to her marker. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. His father was James William McNiece although it is not clear that it was spelled McNiece. Some records indicate it may have been spelled McNease. My sister worked extensively on tracking down any records on his birth or death and was not successful. Our family belief is that James William McNiece(sp?) was originally married to a Rose Echols who was the mother of Ellie Hugh McNiece. She died soon after the birth of Ellie Hugh McNiece. My sister located a marriage license in Newport Arkansas for a J W McNease age 27 and a Jannie Black age 30 both of Remmel Arkansas dated 31 July 1891. The family story has it that they had two boys, James and Albert born 1894 and 1896 who were living with Jannie's aunt Franny and Conrad Koettle in Remmel on the 1900 Ar. Census. James William and Jannie Black McNease died of malaria within a year of each other sometime before the 1900 census was taken. I do not have the census records you mentioned and would be interested in their location. I am not sure I have been any assistance to you but your research has provided new information to me. If you have any documentation about William James McNiece I would be very interested. I have not been able to find any records on him. Ellie Hugh named his children the following first and middle names. Anderson Carrol, Edna Viola, Sidney Lanier, Elihue, Molly Edith, Leonrard Lemuel, James Elbert, Elizabeth, Raymond Haskell and Lillian so he was probably using names he had heard from his family. In 1850, the census shows this household (p 50, line 26): Levia O'Bannon, agr 45, born NY, land worth $240 Lucinda Mann, age 12, b AR, land worth $360 There is a somewhat cryptic reference to some sort of bond in the probate records as to Mrs. O'Bannon, widow of Dr. O'Bannon of Jackson Co. There is a bond date of 8 May 1851, then another date of 8 May 1852, with the name Andrew J. Lankford. Further reference made to daughters sent to Lawrence Co., AR.
