Kay Butcher sent an e mail, but the reply bounced back. Angus ruffner is found in the 1850 census of Bird Township, Jackson Co. He is listed with.. Elias ruf;fner 43 b Va, Nancy 41 b Va, Lewis 21 B Va, Angus 19 born Ill, Henry 15 b Ind, silas b13 b Mo, Sarah 11 Born Ark, Joseph 8, born Ark, nancy 1 b Ark.Looks like they moved around a lot with children born in many different states. Might check your e mail address ...
Correction on the Son of Angus Ruffner. William S. Ruffner is possibly the son of Silas Ruffner, Angus Ruffner's brother. Angus Ruffner's son, William S. Ruffner was born in August of 1871, Silas Ruffner's son was born in September 1861. I'm looking for any information on the Ruffner family, and connections. Angus Ruffner - b. 17 December 1831 in Illinois - d. July 1913 - Lawrence Co., Arkansas Married 1st: Martha E. Brown b. 30 June 1838 - Tennessee - d. 22 April 1883 - They were married 30 November 1854 in Jackson Co., Arkansas. Angus Ruffner married a second time to: Sarah Janes Hughes - b. 13 November 1846 - South Carolina - d. 24 December 1907 - she is buried in the Ruffner Cemetery on the Roy Hughes Farm in Lawrence Co., Arkansas Angus and Sarah were married 13 September 1883 in Jackson Co., Arkansas. Sarah Jane Hughes Ruffner's mother was named Elizabeth W. (?) and was born in 1825 in SC/NC - she died after 1910 as she was found on that census - She was living in the Marion Twp, Lawrence Co., AR at that time with Angus Ruffner. Eliza W. was listed as Eliz. W. Huey, mother-in-law of Angus Ruffner. (Huey is the spelling on the census records) Angus was the post master at Alicia, Lawrence Co., Arkansas. from what I understand...this family was living in Swifton, Jackson Co. Arkansas which is near the town of Alicia, Lawrence Co., Arkansas. There were of Angus Ruffner's living in Jackson Co., AR also... William S. Ruffner who married Ada Harris. William S. Ruffner was born August 1861 and died 4 January 1942 in Newport (Jackson Co.? I am unfamiliar with the Arkansas towns) - William and Ada had three children; Harry, William and Paul Ruffner . If there is anyone with just "any" information on the RUFFNER's or the families of the BROWN, HUGHES & HARRIS families, please contact me. Just one name could help in my search for my family. Thanks, Kay Butcher

Hi Mary, I confirmed yesterday that The New Furniture and Undertaking Company operated until the 1940s when it was bought out by Ollie Dillenger. The old books are kept at Dillenger's Funeral Home. Some of the oldest books are in poor condition. Mark Williamson ARJACKSO listkeeper [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary F. I remember a family who lived in Swifton, Arkansas whose names were "Snow", but right this minute I cannot remember any first names. The lady was elderly when I was a teenager. She would dress in layers of clothing - each one more ragged and wholly than the previous one. In fact, that's the main thing I remember about Mrs. Snow. They lived in Swifton (Jackson County) Arkansas. I'm going to think some more - I've gotta put my grandson back to bed anyway. I believe Joseph Wainwright to be the son of William and Nancy Turner Wainwright of Madison Co., Al. They moved to Lawrence Co. Ar after the 1850 census. William died ca 1855. They had nine children. The only place I have found with a J F Wainwright is in Jackson Co. Ar. These Snows could have been related to my Sarah C. Snow. I will just have to get the Jackson Co., Ar census for 1860. These have been the hardest people to find. Thanks so much for your help. Peggy

I believe this is where my gggrandparents may have lived in 1860. They did not marry until September-1861. Their names are Joseph F. Wainwright and Sarah C. Snow. We believe Joseph died in the Civil War and that Sarah was of Osage Indian descent. Would like to correspond with any one with any knowledge of these two. Thanks in advance Peggy
That furniture company no longer exists. It may be that it was the company where Jackson's Funeral Home got started. I believe when they first began, they were in the office of a furniture company. I do not know for sure. You can contact Jackson's Funeral Home at 1900 Malcolm Ave., Newport, AR 72112, 870-523-5822. Paula Long [email protected] 10/28/00 At 01:27 PM 10/27/2000 -0700, Mary F.
