Barbara, I just had to respond to you after I saw your message. My husband's name is Jessie Thomas Long, and his father's name was Jessie Britt Long, and he was given the name Britt because it was a family name. Tom has a brother whose name is Ronald Britt Long, and he named one of his sons Britt Long. Do you know any connection?? Lyn, I'm sure you know that Newport is the county seat for Jackson County and that Augusta is the county seat for Woodruff County. Other than that, I don't know where you might want to concentrate? Did you have something special in mind? Sheila: My sister-in-law who lives in Oil Trough, Independence County, Arkansas, is a Goodman, I believe. I don't think her name was Goodman, but one of her sister's is a Goodman. Her name is Lola Long (I can't remember her maiden name right this minute). She also has some Goodman relatives in Newark, Independence County, Arkansas. Does this ring any bells with you? There was a Goodman's Grocery Store in Oil Trough at one time. I think there a several people related to them with other last names. I live in Newport, Jackson County, which is about 15 or 20 miles from Oil Trough. Paula Long [email protected] 11/13/00 At 09:33 AM 11/12/2000 -0800, Shela Browning wrote: >Posted on: Jackson Co. Hello List, I have ancestors from Jackson Co. that I am anxious to find out more about. I have a ggg-grandfather that lived there during the Civil War. His name is Alexander Britt b 1806 and he was married to Nancy. Alexander was from N.C. and lived some time in Choctaw Co. Miss.also He served in the place of A. Johnson as his substitute during the Civil War. Alexander was in the 32 Arkansas Infantry, Co. C. His son Thomas Britt was in the same company. Alexander was suppose to have died of his wounds, and likely did late in 1864. My question is where he would be buried in Jackson Co? If anyone knows how I should go about this type of search, please let me know. I have already scoured the cemeteries that are available for that area on line. I have found his son Thomas and his daughter Harriet in the Balsh-Johnston Cemetery. Is there any written records that would be available at this early a date that I could locate concerning the resting place of either, Alexander or his wife Nancy. Regards, Barbara

Posted on: Jackson Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Jackson/245 Surname: Goodman, Walker ------------------------- Manerva Jane GOODMAN was b. 1873 in Sharp Co., AR and d. 1902. As far as I know, Manerva never lived in Jackson Co., AR. Her husband, Sherman WALKER, moved there sometime after 1920. Anyway, Manerva's parents were Hugh A. & Nancy C. (SMITH?) GOODMAN. Hugh GOODMAN came to Sharp Co., from TN between 1870-1880. He later moved to Independence Co., AR and died there in 1924. I've never found the name Johnathan Taylor GOODMAN associated with my family. Sorry, I can't help.
Hello everyone, I am looking for information on A. R. ANDREWS b: Nov. 18, 1848 d: Aug. 20, 1920 Newport, Jackson Co., AR. buried: Walnut Grove Cemetery, Newport, Jackson Co., AR. md: Catherine "Katie" SAVILLE. I have Katie's death certificate and her obit from the newspaper. The obit states that she has been a resident of Jackson Co., AR for 66 years, which mean she was there around 1863. Supposedly she married A. R. ANDREWS sometime after 1877. I can't seem to find what A. R. stands for plus I need some census records for 1870 and up for ANDREWS and SAVILLEs in Jackson Co., AR. Can anyone help me? Queet Jaco

Hello, I hope someone on the list can help me find W.T.Bowman who married Winnie Ragsdale, and they had at least one child born in 1862. They should be on the 1860 Jackson County Census. Any help will be helpful.Thank you Beth
I am from Swifton, and have lived in Newport for the last 30 years. I do not recognize this name (which doesn't mean these people don't live here or never did). I just thought I would give you the benefit of my memory which is nothing as to the Ruffner family. Are there any other families which they married into especially in the Swifton area. Alicia is a very small town on the Jackson/Lawrence County border, and the next town from Swifton. When I last lived there, I lived a couple of miles from the Lawrence County line which is near Alicia.
