She married Hezekiah W. Davis, about 1865-66. Family lived in Fulton Co., AR, in the 1870 census there. After Hezekiah died, Francis and children moved to Independence Co. 1. [ARJACKSO] Jackson Co.Ark. Ancestors
    2. Hello, I would like to correspond with folks who may be researching the following: ALEXANDER BRITT( b. NC 1806) and wife NANCY (PREVATT(?))circa 1860s living in Jackson Co. Their son, THOMAS F BRITT (b Miss. 1842 d. 1906)and ANNA E COMBS 1860-1920s living in Jackson Co.or any of their children. Julia born 1870, Ida born 1883, Alice b. 1880, Luvena born 1878, Jacob b 1883, John F. born 1885. Thomas had in his household JAMES and possibly MARY or MARTHA who I believe to be a children of ELI WINSLOW and DEMARIAS BRITT. (Demarias is mentioned in Alexander's will, along with Thomas and Harriet) My belief is that Thomas took in his sister's children after her death. James and his sister Mary/Martha may have become known as "Britt" instead of carrying their WINSLOW name. DEMARIAS BRITT-WINSLOW had a brief second marriage after Eli Winslows death. She married ABRAM MAY on Nov 8, 1869. She died April 24, 1870. I would like to correspond with any person of the above families who may be researching this family. A professional researcher has done some of the work on tracing my g-grandmother MARTHA BRITT who more than likely died in 1890-93. Too soon for her children to remember much about her. My main interest is finding out about MARTHA/MARY, and all of these names mentioned above may hold the key to her and add a lot to my search. Regards, Barbara

    1. [ARJACKSO] Britts
    2. Hi Paula, Can you tell me if you are looking in the time period of Alexanders sister? Ann Britt is the only sister that is shown for sure as his sister. By the 1860 census of Choctaw Co, Miss. Ann is in the home of William, her brother and lists her, I believe, as being 32 and a spinster. A person that has informed me on Ann has the family bible and has Ann dying July 5, 1885. If there was a marriage for her, I just don't know. I have daughters showing for Alexander's brother, William. He was married 3 times and had daughters from two marriages. Several of them, but do not know if any of them came to Ark. Also Squire Thomas Britt said to be Alexander's brother produced several daughter, again no knowledge of them coming to Ark. Alexander has only one daughter that I cannot account for and that is Juliana Britt b abt 1840. His other daughter was named Demarias and she was married to Eli Winslow and # 2 Abram Mays. Harriet, another daughter, the oldest, of Alexanders, was named in Alexander's will as his "afflicted" daughter, and her gravestone bears her single name and I feel sure she was never married. Your Longs certainly could be fit in there somewhere....and I especially wonder about this Juliana Britt. Thomas F. Britt, son of Alexander also produced several daughters in Jackson Co., Ark. but this would have been after the Civil War. Not knowing for sure what time period we are looking for, leaves me a little in the dark. I appreciate your response to my inquiry. Regards, Barbara

ALSO: 2nd wife's oldest daughter named after the first wife, using her full name. Children after those listed above were usually named after a favorite relative with some possible exceptions: If a child died in infancy, a later child might be given the same name. When a newly ordained minister baptized his first child, if that child were a boy, he would be named for the minister, if a girl, she would receive his surname as her middle name. If a child were fostered, usually because of being orphaned, he may be named for the foster parent. If you are sure that you have the earliest birth or baptisms and that they are in the correct order then, if John's first son is named Charles and his second daughter is named Elizabeth then John's parents must be Charles and Elizabeth. ==== BERRY Mailing List ==== -----> To unsubscribe... -----> mailto:[email protected] (or BERRY-D if you receive digests) -----> Subject= unsub -----> Put "unsubscribe" on a line by itself in the message -----> body (without quotes) --part1_b5.3475aba.274580cc_boundary--

    3. From [email protected]: I recently visited Jackson County and purchased a book by a local author who wrote of the Civil War in Jackson County. (Lots of activity!) That same book can be purchased at the Library in Newport for around $20.00. It lists every soldier that enlisted in that county. I will be glad to look up your soldiers. Additionally, you can write to the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Business Office - Memorial Building, 328 North Blvd., Richmond, VA 23220-4057, or call them at 804-355-1636. For a small charge you can receive photo copies of the original military records of your soldier or the pension file of the widow or living soldier of 1890's. This was very exciting for me to see the records of my ancestors on both sides. I am a Daughter of the Confederacy member. The cost to non-members is something like $20.00 but the ladies are very nice in answering your questions. Also, I had written to the National Archives and never got an answer on one them. There is a website: http://localhost:1234/HLPage?pg=http%3A%2F%2Fgo.webring.yahoo.com%2Fgo%3Frin g%3Dnatcemring%26id%3D25%26go&qt=confederate+cemeteries This probably won't connect you.....I'll try to send alone. Our generation needs to preserve our heritage......knowing that it has nothing to do with hatred or racism. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2000 8:09 PM Subject: [ARJACKSO] Alexander Britt > Hello List, > I have ancestors from Jackson Co. that I am anxious to find out more about. > I have a ggg-grandfather that lived there during the Civil War.
