Hi Jim, You're in luck and not in luck at the same time. The good news: In 1973, a good-size book (maybe 100 pages?) was put together for the celebration of Swifton's centennial (1873-1973). This book includes sketches of the people and major events in Swifton's history, and a good number of pictures of families and buildings in Swifton. It includes everything you asked for in your note! The bad news: Finding a copy. I don't know who put the book together, since there are no credits inside. There is a copy at the Jackson County library in Newport, where I looked through the book today. Moreover, I don't know if the pictures from the book would reproduce well in photocopies. Another source of pictures from Jackson County is the book "Reflections: A Pictorial History of Jackson County" published by the Newport Daily Independent newspaper in 1996, I believe. Like the first book, it's at the Jackson County library, and the newspaper is sold out of the book. Posted on: Jackson Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Jackson/266 Surname: Dancler, Dancer ------------------------- I do not know much about the person I am looking for other than his name was John Wesley Dancler/Dancer he lived in Arkansas, but I am unsure where the person who wanted him researched did not give me a lot of information to go on other than he worked on the Pacific Railroad/Amtrack may have lived past 1910, but I am unsure about this too. You are the first person I have run across that shares the same name (Dancler). From what this person told me the Dancler's are a small group but all are related. Could you please help me to help this woman? From the marriage date you gave above I thought possably the person (Bill Dancler)you are talking about could be a brother or cousin or some family relation.
Hi gang, Here's an 1931 article from a Jackson County newspaper that I ran across. The last paragraph is especially appropriate, although I don't think genealogists were the ones Mr. Parrott had in mind... >From the Tuckerman Record, Friday, 3 Jul 1931, p. 1, col. 2.: [title] "Births and Deaths Should Be Reported." "J. L. Parrott, Local Registrar for births and deaths [for Bird township], is in receit [sic] of a letter from the Arkansas State Board of Health [calling] attestion to the fact that birth and death certificates are far short of what they should be and urging that all not reported be sent [in] within the next ten days or two weeks. Many births are not reported when no licensed physician is in attendance and it is the duty of some one present to report the birth to the Registrar in order that it may be recorded by the Board of Health. Failure to report births for record may result in much trouble and inconvenin [sic] after life of the child when a certificate might be required for various reasons. Numerous deaths are not recorded when an undertaker is not employed and no one takes the trouble to report the death to the Registrar. If you know of a birth or death which has not been reported, you may be doing some one a great favor in the future if you will report it." Mark Williamson ARJACKSO listkeeper [email protected]

Unsubscribe, thanks. I'm already on the other list.
Need help with these Barnes: Susannah Barnes mother of William Barnes who died 1804 Greensville Co. VA. Susannah also died 1820 and her estate sale was held in Oct. 1820 Greensville Co. Susannah appears on the property tax lists in Greensville Co. several times from 1811-1820 with a Richard Barnes whom I believe to also be her son. Richard Barnes then dies Greensville Co. 1825. Does anyone have the maiden name of Susannah Barnes? Then on the 1810 Greensville Co. VA Census I have found Bennett Barnes with, I believe, his sisters Lizzie and Rebeckah Barnes and his mother Susannah Barnes. John Barnes is also listed on the 1810 Greensville Co. Census. Is this the John Barnes who married Elizabeth Bass 1803 Greensville Co.? Sons of John Barnes later appearing in the tax records for Greensville Co. were William H. and also John A. Barnes. There was also a John Barnes who married Henrietta Floyd, Lunenburg Co. 1790. What was the relationship of these two John Barnes? Then in Jackson Co. Arkansas was Ashley Barnes born 1822 who married Frances Edwards(?). Also, Benjamin Barnes whom I believe to be Ashley Barnes' brother. Does anyone have Ashley and Benjamin in their database who could tell me if these men were also of Southside Virginia? Along with Henry Mason who married Lizzie Barnes 1816 Greensville Co., there is also a William Mason who drew on the estate of Susannah Barnes. Was this William Mason the one who married Susan Cooksey March 10, 1810 in Amherst Co. VA? Susan was the daughter of Miles Cooksey, formerly of Greensville Co. VA. I apologize for so many questions (smile), but my research is at a standstill. I will be happy to share with anyone researching the above families. Ashley Barnes and Thomas Mason are two of the oldest buried in Oakland Cemetery, Jackson County Arkansas. The John Barnes above was an uncle or uncle in law to Thomas Mason born 1818 Greensville Co. (my ggrandfather) and I suppose a cousin to Ashley and Benjamin Barnes. Thanks, Carolyn Mason Anderson
