    1. [ARJACKSO] {forwarded from listkeeper} Smith & Jones
    2. Mark Williamson
    3. Good Morning Jackson County Listers: I to am searching the Smith and Jones families. Ain't I lucky :) Always knew about the Jones', I was born one, LOL. Thought I would die when I found dear old Dad had Smith blood too. My Smith's - GEORGE (possible middle initial "K") SMITH ended up in White County, AR. He left TN went to MO & settled in AR. His granddaughter(my 2nd great grandmother) ORPHA J. SMITH m. NICKLAU/NICKLAS BLOCK they settled in Jackson County, outside Newport, AR. Orpha's father was ELIJAH SMITH, mother MALINDA PUCKETT. I have a good amount of information on this family of 10 children. Anything look familiar? Now for the JONES Family. They ended up in Jackson County, AR, mid 1800's after being dropped there by a UFO from an unknown planet. Rumor has it that the UFO may have tried to leave them around Calico Rock, Izard County, AR first. Due to eradict flight patterns of UFO's it has been impossible to determine pre-Jackson County landings with certainty.... My 2nd great grandfather was JOHN THOMAS "TOM" JONES - great grandfather JOHN THOMAS "TOM" JONES (no I didn't stutter :) Grandfather DEWEY JONES, father LESLEY THOMAS "TOM" JONES. In case your wondering :> my oldest brother - Tom Jones. Oh yeah - both great-grandfathers married PARNELL'S. Anyone with any information or connections would be much loved and appreciated! If you can call me cousin I promise not to tell anyone I am an alien from another planet :->) Other Independence, Jackson County surnames I am searching include: SUMMERS - MANUEL - RAWLINGS - TURNER - LUCAS - OVERTURF - et. al. 1. [ARJACKSO] [off-topic] important message from listkeeper
    2. Mark Williamson
    3. Hi, No doubt by now you are aware that a version of the BadTrans virus is actively invading many home users. Even if you have the latest antivirus definitions downloaded, this virus exploits a flaw in Internet Explorer versions 5.01 and 5.5. Simply put, once you open, or even just preview, an infected mail message, the virus begins to infiltrate before your antivirus software can react. The shame of it is, a security patch to address this flaw was released by Microsoft - 8 MONTHS AGO (to catch your attention). Some of you have been negligent in applying Security Patches or Service Packs to update your Internet Explorer browser software. The security patch that addresses this particular virus can be found at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS01-020.asp . The home page for Microsoft Security issues is http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/default.asp , and if you use IE and Outlook or Outlook Express, I STRONGLY recommend that you subscribe to automatically receive Security Bulletins in your email (see the above link.) Review of good security precautions: ---------------------------------------------------- (1) ALWAYS use an anti-virus program, and update your antivirus definitions at least weekly. (2) Consider STRONGLY using personal firewall software. I use ZoneAlarm - ZoneAlarm is a free download, and its email script protection quarantined the virus files sent to me before my anti-virus software could even act. (http://www.zonealarm.com) (3) If using IE/Outlook/Outlook Express, check regularly for Microsoft security patches (see above.) (4) Configure your e-mail program to minimize risk. For Outlook Express, here's one good how-to website, easy to understand, with diagrams: http://www.tames.net/security/oesettings.htm (5) Practice good mail housekeeping. Don't leave mail unread, permanently delete messages from your "Deleted Items" folder regularly. (These five stepts were adapted from a list in the VIRUS-DISCUSSION newsgroup from Caroline Gurney.) Thanks, Mark Williamson ARJACKSO listkeeper [email protected] (The ARJACKSO list is temporarily on "moderated" status.)

    1. [ARJACKSO] Three updated cemetery inventories added to Archives
    2. Mark Williamson
    3. Hi gang, I've added three updated cemetery inventories to the USGenWeb Jackson County Archives website. An inventory of Lamkins Cemetery (spelled Lampkins in the old inventory) was done by Jean and Glenn Gilley of Texas. Inventories of the adjacent old Martin and Memory Garden Cemeteries have been compiled by Mead B. Camp of California. Please take some time and read the introduction to the Martin and Memory Garden cemetery inventory files, even if you have no known family there! As always, the URL for the Jackson County Archives webpage is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ar/jackson/jackson.html Mark Williamson ARJACKSO listkeeper [email protected]

    2. Mark Williamson
    3. Hi JT, Viruses cannot come through any RootsWeb mailing list. The RootsWeb lists have filters which remove all attachments. See http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/virus.html for information. If active on someone's machine, though, the virus will find UNREAD mail and forward it (with an affected attachment) to people in the affected's Address Book. That's probably what happened in your circumstance. I'm glad your virus software caught it. [To everyone] Please take the necessary steps to prevent viruses on your computer. You can go to http://www.symantec.com or other virus software websites to find out the latest information. Also, if you have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or 5.5 as your browser, and have not kept current with downloading the latest various security patches, you are at risk. ----- Original Message ----- From: "JT" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, November 27, 2001 7:09 PM Subject: Re: [ARJACKSO] VIRUS SENT! > This came thru the list, with the virus attached, NORTON caught it > immediately. > Please reclean your machine. > JT > > -------Original Message------- > > From: Alma Luper > Date: Tuesday, November 27, 2001 09:27:10 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [ARJACKSO] VIRUS SENT! > > Hi All: > > I received a virus yesterday. If you have received an email from me with an attachment I pray your virus detector caught it before any problems occurred. The email was a reference to an LDS transcription. My virus detector did not catch it until I rebooted. However, today I have received many emails with the virus. All caught by my virus detector. This thing is stealing subject lines from emails in your inbox. Please be careful and I want to offer my apologies to anyone who may have become infected as a result of my email. I was interested to find your message seeking information on the Tims family Tree. I have little knowledge here of my own Tims anscestry. My Grandfather Tims, William James Tims supposedly went to America about 1924, and was thought to have stayed or maybe settled in New York, having worked aboard merchant ships, so my own father does not remember him, and knows so little about him. It seems there are many TIMS in your country so you must have a hard job locating all your anscestors. I have recently tried to trace my own grandfather Tims with no success. I wanted to find out what happend to him while my own father is still alive. It seems that there is no trace of him having died here in the UK so I assume he died in the United States. Do you know if you have any connection with any Tims here in the UK? My Grandfather Tims was born and lived for a time in Teddington, Middlesex before moving here to Devonshire. I was wondering if you have any contact with any Tims me! mbers who were related to William James Tims, born 1880, Kingston on Thames,Middlesex. He was son of Charles and Corelia. I wish you success in your searches and if you could shed any light upon my own search I would be very grateful to you. Best wishes, Mervyn Tims.
