Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/RV.2ADI/289 Message Board Post: In the 1880 Jackson County, Arkansas census in Bird Township was Minnie C. Mercer an 8-year-old orphan born in Missouri. She was in the household of John M. Brown age 25, born Tennessee and wife Mary C. age 22, born Tennessee. A marriage record has been found for a John Brown age 23 of Bird Township to Miss Polly Gumble or Gamble age 22 of Jackson County who were married 6 Nov 1879, by Lewis Penix JP [Marriage Book A, p.106]. Soon after this census, Minnie was taken by horseback to a [an unknown] family in Missouri. What I do know is that she ended up in Howell County, Missouri marrying George Washington Keeler 29 Jan 1893. She used the name "Minnie Brown" when she married GW Keeler. All we have on Minnie before she married GW, are family stories. She remembered little about her origins. Her maiden name may have been Mercer or phonetically Merser, Mercy, Mersy, Mecier, etc. I would very much like to know anything about the Brown and Gamble/Gumble family and any Mercer (et al) names or families of this area and including Woodruff County. Minnie has been linked with Auguste, Woodruff County, Arkansas as well as Arkansas cities Pocahontas and Powhatan. Any suggestions for researching this mystery would be appreciated as well. Thank you.
Thanks for the offer Would be interested in Ollie Lee Short. If there are other Shorts would be interested in those also. Thanks, Deborah Magnolia TX Searching SHORT, GARRETT Woodruff, White & Jackson Co

Hi Mark, Thanks for the generous offer to look up draft registration cards from WWI. I'd be interested to see if any Thornton males from the Tupelo area are on the list. Particularly Tommy Thornton. For the list: I'm interested to hear from anyone that has a Thornton in their research. My line lived around Tupelo in Jackson County, and later near McCrory in Woodruff County. Thank you! Hi gang, I have rented, and have available for the next four weeks, the LDS microfilm of World War I draft registrations cards from Jackson County for the years 1917-1918. All men born between 1873 and 1900 were required to register, and these cards may have significant genealogical information for the family researcher. Please read Michael John Neill's article at: http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/news/articles/5056.asp (scroll to the heading "More About the Draft Records") for specifics on what the draft registration cards contain. Because I can only view the microfilm when the Family History Center is open and when I'm able to drive there, I must limit the number of lookups at this time to 3 per person. If you give me information that is too general, I'll send back the first three names I find in order of alphabet. If you still want entries from a common surname/family, please include the town or community where the family lived, and I'll be glad to send you just those, up to 3 entries (for example "all Smith males living in Auvergne.") Of course, requests for specific individuals would be best. Please send requests through the ARJACKSO mailing list! Mark Williamson ARJACKSO listkeeper [email protected]

Hello, I'm looking for information about Jacob & John Britt. They are the sons of Thomas F. and Anna E.Combs. Jacob was born Mar. 1887 and John born Aug 1885 in Ark. The Britt family lived in Richwoods twp in Jackson County with father Thomas moving there from Miss. after 1850. Thomas was the son of Alexander Britt and Nancy Prevatt of N.C. I am searching for information to give to the Prevatt(e) Historical Society. The information I seek is what became of John & Jacob after 1962 when James Menos Balch made mention of them in an article called 'Pioneer Families of Richwoods' in 'The Streams of History.' The article actually issued in 1966 after Mr. Balch's death. Sorry I was not more specific in my first posting. Thanks, Barbara
