    1. Re: [Arizona] Granite
    2. Thanks for replying. I checked the Yavapai County website for info, but I cannot find Granite on any present-day map of AZ. I'm starting to think that the town doesn't exist any more. Where and how does one look for a place using the longitude and latitude given below? Sorry to be such a dunce. 1. [Arizona] Granite
    2. I'm trying to find the location of Granite AZ. I have ancestors that traveled to this location from Arkansas in the early 1900s to preach at a Baptist Church. If anyone can give me a location (I can't find it on a present-day map), or knows the name or names of any such churches in that area, I would be most grateful. Thanks, Carol

I do have Gosnell informaation back to about 1570 like I told you, but someone else put it on the internet: I have read on the internet that there was a Robert who was given a place called Goss Hall in England by one of the War Lords: he then became known as Robert de Goss Hall, then it became Gosshall, then Gosnall, and was spelled also Gosnold etc; it then filtered on down to Gosnell. I do know that Gosnell has been spelled Goznel, Gausnell, Gosling, Goslin, etc. Some people, is just not interested in Genealogy and won't respond for one reason or another. Lots of Luck in your search. Harold Gosnell in Louisiana:

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3U.2ADE/352.276.1 Message Board Post: Thanks for the contact Harold. The Robert A. Gosnall I have appears in a directory of GOSNALL's sent to me by Halbert's Family Heritage which claim to have carefully researched the detail shown. I have some doubts over this though. I did write to Robert at the address given 177 West. 20th. Street, Tucson, Arizona 85701 but received no response. I am aware that a Henry GOSNALL of Suffolk is recorded to have sailed from England with his wife Mary for the America's in the 1600's but have not as yet authenticated my research back that far so do not know if I am related to that branch of the tree. Other researchers think he may well have been a member of the GOSNOLD or GOSNOLDE family associated with Bently, Suffolk and that GOSNALL is possible a derivative of that name. As known and verified to date the following is the extent of my past. At the age of 68 and hampered by illness I rely on the younger members of my family and my association with the Suffolk and Essex Family History Societies for leads, and of course the IGI and Internet. Greg Garcia would most likely be a great-great uncle. He later moved to Pheonix were he practiced law. His other brother Monico Garcia married Aurelia, actually should be Amelia Hunt, on July 7, 1902. My guess is that they were not married when they witnessed the marriage of Redolfo Pena and Viviania Moreno. Alfred Ruiz was an attorney in St. Johns at the time. He was married to my great-great aunt Rufina (aka Ruth S.) They are linked thru Nosifor Trujillo and Maria Duran, whom are her parents as shown in the 1870 San Marcial, NM census. Nosifor (aka Nusifor, Necifor) was the father of Beatrice Trujillo who married Jose Gabriel Garcia that Clarissa has mentioned in other posts.Through most of my research the families travelled either at the same time or shortly thereafter. Monico and Amelia Hunt Garcia were involved in St johns schools and in the same capacity in Concho. Monico was also involved in city and county offices and Amelia was Superintendent of the schools for a time. Both died in Pheonix, Arizona. His brother Erminio (aka Herminio, Ermmio, Ermino) married a Lionides Leal and they had one child named Helena. Apparently Lionides died because he then married Martha (Marta) Chavez on Jan 24, 1898. Both marriages occured in St Johns. The garcia brothers' mother was a Petra Gonzalez who had migrated to from Lemitar, NM to San Marcial, NM then to St Johns where she died. Her husband possibly died in Lemitar between 1855 and 1860. A daughter was born in 1855 and in the 1869 census her husband Jose Gregorio Garcia wasn't shown. The name Jose Angel has shown in some of my research under Jaun Chavez in the 1860 census of Limitar, New Mexico..... could be a name handed down over time since I have crossed it a few times through my journies. I will keep the names u have mentioned on my mind when I look through the different resources and see if I can find out any additional info. If you wouldn't mind I would like a copy of the will and the marriage certificate so I can add these to my records.... My e-mail is angelrod_2000@netzero.net Sincerely, David Rodriguez

    1. [Arizona] La Paz County AZGenWeb update 28 Nov 2003
    2. Oregon Rains
    3. Just because La Paz County http://www.rootsweb.com/~azlapaz/ is the "newest county" and not formed until 1983 does not mean there is no history, nor records for this county that was once part of Yuma County. The communities, past and present, of what is now La Paz County have a rich and wonderful history. I have add new items to the La Paz County AZGenWeb site. You will find under the heading of "MINES" the beginning of a "Mine Claim and Deed Index" as well as the start of a "directory" of mining claims. The claims and index are for the year 1863 so far. I hope you have all checked out the AZGenWeb Gravestone Photo Project. This project is a wonderful way of preserving your ancestors gravestones and your family's gravestones for ever. I hope you will begin adding your photos of La Paz http://arizonagravestones.org/index.php/cid_7 cemeteries soon. As of tonight we have over 2100 gravestone photos for the whole state that have been add to the various counties. I hope you all had a Wonderful Thanksgiving! Constance

    2. I tried replying to the original sender but delivery failed so am posting my reply on the list. Arenal seems to be in New Mexico. Arizona didn't become a separate Territory from New Mexico until 1863. You can search on this site to find the county, latitude and longitude: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form The Family History Society of Arizona published a heads-of-household index to the 1910 Federal Census for Arizona Territory. However, we don't list the surname Stakum or any similar spelling. Happy hunting.
