Hi Betty: The library of Virginia has the R. Bolling Batte cards you can access on line. It has a lot of information on ancestors in Virginia. I think you can access them by doing a ghoogle search - R. Bolling Batte papers. I found a lot of my ancestral information there. He has put information on file cards with sources and will mention where available the children, wills, marriages, etc. And he is from a Bolling family which might just fit in your friends ancestors in VA. The cards are searchable by surname. Good luck.
