Calico Rock Progress - Jul 26, 1940 – Sheriff D. O. Johnson Dies This Morning After Brief Illness At the hour of going to press with this issue, news of the death of Sheriff Delbert O. Johnson was received here. His death occurred in a hospital at Batesville this, Friday morning, at 1:30 o’clock. Mr Johnson developed blood poisoning Thursday of last week and was removed to the hospital, where he underwent an operation. Since then his condition has remained very critical and complications developed. When his condition grew worse Wednesday, it became apparent that he had little chance of recovery. Blood transfusions were administered Thursday. Funeral arrangements, yet incomplete, are for services to be held at Melbourne, Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Sheriff Johnson was running for a second term. He formerly served two terms as sheriff and was game warden and revenue collector several years. (Arkansas Death Record Index – Johnston, D. O. died 7-26-1940 in Independence County) (Delbert O.
