Burnell Montgomery, 76, of Elizabeth, Arkansas, was born on June 18, 1936, in Morriston, Arkansas, son of Barrett Watson and Bernice Lee (Cantrell) Montgomery. He departed this life on July 11, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Burnell was united in marriage to Carolyn Sue Huett on January 20, 1960, at Jonesboro, Arkansas, and to this union, one son was born. He later married Joann Farmer on June 15, 1996, at Calico Rock, Arkansas. Burnell worked as a Ferry Pilot for the Arkansas State Highway Department for many years and was a farmer. He was an avid bluegrass fan, was a member of the Elizabeth Church of Christ and served his country in the United States Army. He leaves to mourn his passing: wife, Joann Montgomery of Elizabeth, Arkansas; son, Mark Montgomery and wife Carol of Elizabeth, Arkansas; three grandchildren, John Mark Montgomery of Little Rock, Arkansas, Kristin Montgomery of Searcy, Arkansas, and Micah Montgomery of Elizabeth, Arkansas; sister, Sue Hylton of Maumelle, Arkansas; two nephews, Todd Hylton and Scott Hylton; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife and parents. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 13, 2012, 2:00 PM, at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas, with Bro. Roy Moss officiating. Interment will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery at Elizabeth, Arkansas, under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Harold McDonald, Vernon Robbins, Leon Hodges, Tommy Richmond, Dale Hostetler and Jim Short. Visitation will be Thursday, 6-8 PM, at the funeral home.
