The following text is taken from the book Clay County Kentucky / Histories & Families on page 293.This book was written and published by the Clay County Genealogical and Historical Society, Manchester Kentucky 40962. Pigg, William One of seven children of Paul and Sarah Pigg, was born ca 1735 in Virginia. The will of Paul Pigg was probated at the Pittsylvania Co. Courthouse at Chatham VA in 1767. About the time Daniel Boone was first thinking about coming to Kentucky. Paul Pigg had several thousand acres of land in different counties in Virginia which helped make the Pigg’s prominent in early Virginia. William and Mary came to Kentucky before 1790 and settled in that part of Madison County that became Clay County, in 1807. They lived in the area now called Fogertown. William had been a Sergeant in George Rogers Clark’s campaign to capture the Northwest for the United States during the Revolution and was thereby, in Kentucky, a great deal during the war. He was awarded 400 acres of land as was due a Sergeant. The 400 acres he claimed included the present site of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and his combined land holdings likely extended from there to Terrill’s Creek. William Pigg died about 1824. The fourth generation of the Pigg family in America. In his will of 1820, of record in the Clay County Clerk’s Office, He bequeathed land, household goods, the mill he had built on the Rockcastle River, faring tools and seventeen slaves.
