I've been working on this Dixon line for a couple of days now, and I have to admit that it is very puzzling. According to FAG and others on this list, Matthew was born ca. 1776. Yet in the 1860 census he is living with Alice Cooper, a daughter of his according to FAG, and is 77 years old. And then in 1870 census, I find him living with Hilliard, a son, and he is 87 years old. This would seem to give a birth year of ca. 1783. I've searched and cannot find him in the 1850 census anywhere. Possibly he was in the process of traveling from TN to AR at that time? I did find a Matthew Dixon in 1830 Bedford, TN census, born between 1781 and 1790, this could be him. Or not. I've also found Matthew Dixon in 1790, 1800, 1810 census in Pendleton Dist. SC. Possibly this could be "our" Matthew Dixon if he was the son of Matthew Dixon. Has anyone determined who his father was? I also found a Matthew Dixon who was a Rev. War soldier. This would have to be Matthew, Sr. In 1820 they were living in Bedford, TN and he had a male and female 45 and up living with him, possibly his parents. Also it shows 2 persons in the household were not native born, and not naturalized. His parents? Any ideas of where they were from? By 1830 census, the elderly couple is no longer enumerated, and I couldn't find any Matthew that would fit the right age, in 1840 or 1850. Also on FAG the contributor (not named) stated that Alice Dixon married Peyton Cooper and her sister, Kizziah married Allen Cooper, Peyton's brother. Anybody else believe this to be true? Wilma
