I have watched a couple of the shows that everyone on the list is complaining about.  I personally don't see that it is degrading to anyone.  I grew up in a small Izard County town and every person on the show has a counterpart in my town.  In fact Crowbar could be my brother-in-law's twin.  Admittedly I never knew a person that live in the woods barefoot, but we had our people that were odd or different.  As far a the moon shine goes.....it is still down there if you know where to go.  I never considered the people in our town as backward and still don't.  They were just what they were and far from ignorant.  Mary
