    3. Cleatus Van ‘Pete’ Armstrong was born 27 Apr 1931, in Morriston, AR, the son of the late Van B. Armstrong and Martha Priscilla Cozort Armstrong. He died Sept. 4, 2008, at his home in Thayer, MO, at the age of 77. He was united in marriage on 5 Dec 1952, in Pontiac, MI, to Flora Lorene Campbell. He was a decorated veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Army in the Japanese Occupation and during the Korean Conflict. For his bravery, he received numerous awards and medals, including the Purple Heart and five Bronze Stars. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of Vincent-Langston-Lunn VFW Post 7831 in Mammoth Spring. He spent most of his working life in the auto industry, advancing from mechanic to managerial positions. For several years he was general manager of the Cadillac, Pontiac GMC dealership in West Plains under various ownerships, later returning to work as parts and service manager for Blackburn Chevrolet in Thayer. He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ.                He is survived by: his wife, Lorene Armstrong of the home in Thayer; 5 children, Chesley Armstrong of Thayer, Kay Rolen and husband, Steve of Virginia Beach, VA, Connie McFann and husband, Keith of Myrtle, MO, John Armstrong and wife, Connie of Willow Springs, MO, and Doug Armstrong of Mammoth Spring, AR; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, David Armstrong of CO; 4 sisters, Geneva Smith of Mammoth Spring, Veneda Dillard of Michigan, Nadine Smith of Cassville, MO, and Elsie Holman of Thayer; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Cloyce Armstrong; 2 sisters, Janette Romine and Wilma Cherry; and one infant sister. Services were Sept. 8 at Thayer Church of Christ. Burial followed in Morriston Cemetery at Morriston, Ark., with arrange- ments under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.                                                                                                                                               = = =                         Wilma Fern Armstrong CherryWilma Fern Cherry, daughter of the late Van Buren and Martha Priscilla Cozort Armstrong, was born 17 Aug 1929, in Morriston, AR, and died 25 Aug 2003, at Mtn. Home, AR, at the age of 74 years. She was united in marriage 30 Jul 1945 in St. Louis, MO, to James Lee Cherry. She was a homemaker and worked as a sales clerk for Forschler's Department Store for several years. She especially enjoyed being surrounded by her large family and fishing. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Mammoth Spring. Survivors include 3 grandchildren -- Cindy Bennett of Thayer, Ronald Hurtt of Tupelo, MS, and Brian Hurtt of Thayer;MO; 3 great-grandchildren -- Amanda and Les Johnson of Mammoth Spring and Jacob Bennett of thayer; 7 siblings -- Geneva Smith of Thayer, Veneda Dillard of Orion, MI, Cloyce "Vern" Armstrong and his wife, Madge, of Ulysses, KS, Cleatus "Pete" Armstrong and his wife, Lorene, of Thayer, MO, Nadine Smith and her husband, Bob, of Seligman, MO, Elsie Holman of Thayer, MO, and David Armstrong and his wife, Loretta, of Round Rock, TX; 2 sisters-in-law -- Lucille Cherry of Thayer and Marie Cherry of Pocahontas, AR.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 2 children -- Wilma Jean Hurtt and James Lee Cherry Jr.; a sister, Jeannette Romine; an infant sister, Thelma Armstrong; a sister-in-law, Louise Cherry; and 7 brothers-in-law -- Claude Smith, Roy Romine, Bob Holman, Elmer Dillard, Audie Russell and Clyde Cherry. Services were 28 Aug at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, MO with Ted Clarke officiating. Burial was in the Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, MO, with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer. Pallbearers were Norman Cozort, Doug Armstrong, Keith McFann, Therman Smith, Sean Langston and Ken Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Chet Armstrong, John Armstrong, Bob Smith. = = =                                Rodney Kermit Cozort Rodney Kermit Cozort, age 81, a resident of Russellville, AR died Sunday, 1 Jun 2003, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, AR. He was born 5 Apr 1922, at Mammoth Springs, AR to the late Clarence Edward and Blanche Billingsley Cozort. He was an elder at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ; a life member of the V. F. W.; past Exalted Ruler of the B. P. O. E.; and a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors include a former wife, Corrine Cozort of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; 2 sons, Rodney G. Cozort of  The Dalles, Oregon and Daniel G. Cozort of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; 2 daughters, Susan Christensen of Detroit Lakes, MI and Christl Cozort of Brussels, Belgium; 2 sisters, Juanita Luessen and Lodema Jensen both of Russellville; 4 grandchildren; and other relatives. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2003, at Shinn Chapel with Rev. Thom E. Walker officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park at Russellville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Gary Skelton, H. C. Martin, William Sherman, Marvin Johnson, Ed Harness and Daniel G. Cozort. Honorary pallbearer is Charles Luessen. Visitation will be 7 to 8, Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 103 South Boston, Russellville, AR 72801.
