Can anyone (Betty Brunson?) tell me what they know of the old Franklin School building's history? Recently a painting has been posted on a site about Violet Hill Schools but my mom says she doesn't remember the building looking much like the painting does. Was there an earilier building at that site in Franklin? Mom says her brothers went to school there in about 1925 or so. It was consolidated with VHHS around 1935-1940 we think. Liz, The only school that I knew of in Franklin is the one build about 1870 and burned 1971. If you have the book, Earlier Schools of Izard Co, on page 57 is a picture of a painting I did of the School. I paint it from a photo of Joel Roberts, first day of school, with the school in the background. That photo is in the Izard County History Vol 3 No. 4, October 1972, on page 8 as part to the History of Franklin written to Tommy Simpson. The date below this picture taken says 1937, this is wrong , Joel was not born at that time. I think it should be about 1955 the picture was taken. What is the site address for the Violet Hill Schools? I will look and see what's is on there.
