    3. My notes on the George Elias Barker and Arizona Donnia (Clark) "Ma" Barker family created some interest on the Dalton Gang. I dug out some notes I had made some time ago on this family. I never did directly tie the Dalton's in my family to the Dalton Gang of notoriety. There is quite a bit of information available on the internet with the center of information being Kingfisher Oklahoma, where almost all the family is buried. The general consensus is that when brother John Franklin "Frank" Dalton was shot and killed in Line Of Duty, in Fort Smith, the other brothers, perhaps trying to avenge his death, became Deputy U.S. Marshals. After not being paid for their law enforcement work, in 1890 brothers Grat, Bob & Emmett moved to the other side of the law. Father James Lewis Dalton b. 16 Feb 1826 KY, d. 6 Jul 1890 KS (Cholera), had been a saloon keeper in K.C. MO, moving to Indian Territory ca. 1882 and on to Coffeyville Ks in 1888. On 12 Mar 1851 James Lewis had married Adeline Lee Younger (Daughter of Cole Younger, the Outlaw). b. 15 Sep 1835 Cass, MO, d. 25 Jan 1925, Kingfisher OK. Lewis and Adeline had 15 children, 13 of them reaching maturity. Grat had been convicted of horse theft but he wanted to be a bigger name than Jesse James so they decided to rob two banks at the same time in Coffeyville. They had specialized in train robbery. He was killed in a gunfight that followed the duo bank robbery attempt. William Marion "Bill" Dalton b. 1863 Cass, MO. d. 8 Jan 1894 Elk City, OK. Part of a group called "Wild Bunch" was shot by a U.S. Marshall and killed in Elk City OK. Robert Renick "Bob" Dalton b. 13 May 1869 Cass, MO. d. 5 Oct 1892 Coffeyville, Ks. Killed at the same bank robbery attempt as brother "Grat" He was thought to be the wildest of the boys, he had killed a man when he was 19 years old, he was a U.S. Marshall at the time. He is said to be the one who introduced liquor to Indian Territory. (Not sure about that.) Emmett "Em" Dalton b. 3 May 1871 Cass. MO. d. 13 Jul 1937 Hollywood, CA. In the duo bank robbery attempt in Coffeyville Ks, with his brothers, he had received 23 gunshot wounds but survived. He was given a life sentence, but was paroled after 14 years. He moved to CA, became involved in building construction, real estate and film making. The brother who was shot while a U.S. Marshal, John Franklin "Frank" Dalton b. 8 Jun 1859, Jackson, MO. d. 27 Nov 1887, Fort Smith, Sebastian, AR. He may have been married to someone with ties to Izard Co. Ar. The first target I find of the Dalton Gang was a gambling house in Silver City, NM. They specialized in robbing trains and banks in Indian Territory and Kansas. They had been quite successful until they tried to outdo Jesse James. Don
