A recent request by some of the Barker family members asked me to see if they were related to the Bloody Barker Gang. I did not find any ties to local Barkers but will put a bit of the information just in case some one else would like to take a look. Elias Barker b. ca 1802 KY, d. Aft 1870 ,Laclede, Missouri Sarah Dennis b. ca 1825 KY, d. ca 1865 ,Laclede, Missouri Son John Barker b. 8 Sep 1837 MO, d. 8 Oct 1913 ,Stone, Missouri Elivra Adaline McDowell b. 12 Oct 1838 KY, d. 24 Mar 1911 Son George Elias Barker b. ca 1858 ,Laclede, MO d. 28 Feb 1941 Joplin, Jasper, MO. 1st m.17 Sep 1877 Angeline Campbell 2nd m. Arizona Donnia "Ma" "Kate" "Arrie" Clark b. 8 Oct 1873 ,Greene, MO. d. 16 Jan 1935 Ocklawaha, Marion, Florida George Elias Barker always seemed to be a hard working honest and worthwhile citizen, held regular jobs for all his life, never seemed to have been involved with his wife and the four sons crimes. His answer was always that "Ma" handled the boys. "Ma" always said that everyone was trying to persecute her sons and they were good boys. Although Ma Barker was never arrested for a crime, she was the primary lead in planning and executing the bank robberies. She at one time kidnapped a wealthy St. Paul brewer, William A. Hamm, and collected $100,000 for his release. They had four sons. Herman H. Barker b. 30 Oct 1893 MO, d. 29 Aug 1927 Wichita, Kansas He married a Carol from Batesville AR, but they had no children. After robbing several banks and killing a police officer, he committed suicide in Wichita Kansas. "Ma" always said the police executed him. Lloyd William Barker b. 16 Mar 1897, Lawrence, MO, d. 18 Mar 1949 Westminster, CO. He and his wife Jean (NY City) lived together as common law husband and wife until about a month before his wife killed him. They got married (Feb 1949). They had two children Eileen and Michael, I believe both may still be living. These were the only grand children of George and Arizona Barker. Lloyd robbed a bank in Kansas in 1922, was sent to Leavenworth Kansas Prison for 25 years. Arthur Raymond "Dock" Barker b. 4 Jun 1899, Lawrence, MO. d. 13 Jan 1939 Alcatraz CA. "DocK" started out by stealing a Government car in 1918, and murdered a night watchman in Tulsa, for which he got 25 years. He was paroled in 1932. Was soon sent to Alcatraz for kidnapping a MN banker, was given a life sentence. Arthur was killed in 1939 while trying to escape Alcatraz. Frederick G. Barker b. 12 Dec 1901 Lawrence, MO. d. 16 Jan 1935 Ocklawaha, Marion, FL. He robbed a bank in Wichita Kansas and was paroled from prison in 1931. With police hot on his trail for other crimes, Fred and his mother "Ma" fled to Oklawaha, Marion, FL, where in a 45 minute gun fight with the FBI, both Fred and Ma were killed. George Barker, the father, had become disenchanted with his family and in 1928 he separated from "Ma". He moved to Webb City, MO. and ran a filling station until near his death in 1941. A very interesting study with history like the James and Dalton Family. Don
