God KNOWS when and where we'll die, but if you step in front of a speeding bus or jump out of a plane without a parachute YOU are determining when and where you'll die. There's a difference. God gave us a brain for a reason. Not saying going to Israel is dangerous. Just as when traveling anywhere unfamiliar, if you stay with a group and a guide you should be as safe or safer there as anywhere. > During a visit with her a couple years ago, she said "who cares" about our genealogy. Someday she may appreciate all your hard work. I wish I'd developed an interest in my own family history about 25 years before I did. ----- Original Message ----- From: PEGGY TRUESDELL To: arizard@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, December 08, 2010 12:17 PM Subject: Re: [ARIZARD] Arizard:off subject Hi, Glenna! Glad to know your daughter is home from her wonderful trip. One of my nieces, Dianne, goes to Israel at least once a year. Some years ago they learned her husband had Jewish ancestry a couple generations back, and they embraced the religion and practice it. After 9/11 I made some cautionary remarks about world travel and she said God had already determined when and where she would die. I ran that by one of my Baptist friends and she said my niece was right about that. So, from then on, I've "supported" her choices. During a visit with her a couple years ago, she said "who cares" about our genealogy. I backed her up, and reminded her that I am not negative about what she chooses to do -- and I don't appreciate her being negative about what I do. So, no more disparaging remarks. My son Barry has lived in Japan since 1988 after graduating from the University of Tulsa. He went there to teach "English" to adolescent Japanese children. I had friends in the work place who would tell me, "There's going to be an earthquake there -- you need to tell him to come home." I didn't see it that way. I believed it was his choice. I always believed our children "are loaned" to us. Barry has obtained his Master's and Ph.D (from Columbia University of NY in Tokyo) and is a professor in a Japanese university. So, Glenna, glad for your daughter and glad for you that she's safe and sound -- and had a good time! Have a great day and stay warm. Peggy
