    3. June, I forgot to tell these folks, that I do remember when my Dad decided he would raise some pigs there in Calico. I was just a little tot. Mother had taken all the kitchen scraps out to feed them. (The 1950s solution to recycling). She was carrying me on one hip and had the "slop bucket" in the other hand. When we got to the pig pen, she opened the gate and walked in to put the scraps in the trough for the pigs. About that time, one of the huge sows starts angrily toward us! Mother throws the bucket, gabs me with both hands and runs out of the pig pen and locks the gate behind us. I don't remember Mother having to tell Dad that he was now in charge of feeding the pigs everytime from then on. Needless to say, we didn't have pigs very long, probably was only until that group was sold! Beth P.S. that's the extent of my hog-calling, other than Razorback games but Pat, I might be a better competitor in duck-calling. There's no water around this year so the hunting is not much, if any. Haven't heard about deer hunting much this year but this last weekend we saw 5 deer killed by autos on the road between Little Rock and Calico. Most of them were up in the hilly areas and did get to observe a huge flock of wild turkey in Stone County walking down a gravel road. We had seen this group before but in a cattle field about 5 miles down the road from this past sighting. (bet it is a lot shorter "as the crow flys" through the woods.   ----- Original Message ---- From: June Ramsey <junebug@centurytel.net> To: arizard@rootsweb.com Sent: Mon, December 13, 2010 12:45:38 PM Subject: Re: [ARIZARD] Piggs-Marsha Hey!! girl your'e good Ha! 3. Beth speaking of wild turkeys I was setting in the living room, and looked up and here goes a turkey another, and another just out side the yard in the woods, and i said to Ed there goes some turkeys one right behind the other and he looked out the window and lordy they just kept coming and he counted 30 . think that is abt as many as i ever seen in one group up that close. Seem's to be hens and abt half or two thirds grown. not that many gobblers. That was exciting. When i wa growing up dad always raised those big ole polen chinas ? Can't speel) Tey would have a sack full of pigs, and i always wanted to play with them. Dad would usually give me the runt to pet. You sure didn't won't to crawl in the pin with them. Mom and dad milked several cows, and seperated the cream with a seperator and shipped on the train to Carthage,Mo They would take the extra milk and mix with shorts and feed the hogs .The hogs we killed to eat he would lay the corn to then till they couldn't hardly get up.Enough of tall tales ha! 1. [ARIZARD] There are pigs and then there are HOGS

    3. Razorbacks are the only team I have ever held elegance to - my brother went there in the late '60's. That cute little VW bug done up as a HOG on there intros has gotten me envious.  Someone around here has the greatest red pickup with old classic decals on the doors.  Think it is a Ford.  That is a truck to die for. Raising pigs:  I know just enough to be dangerous.  Selling a litter of pigs was for cash flow.  Something funny about pigs - apparently you sell them at a between 8-10 weeks.  After that, you get less money or you have to hold them a lot longer for some reason. Any farmers out there know why ? ? ?
