Sorry, been so long I've forgotten not to push ENTER before I put my information in. very sorry! Truly this is more on the Battles then the Hightower, but anyway: I had Willis BATTLES married to "HILA J." FINLEY. Which was apparently Mary Jane HIGHTOWER Finley. I thank you for letting me get my notes straightened out. Willis and Mary Jane had a son, Joseph Eli Battles that married Mary Ella LAWHORN; I have no marr date/state listed, but believe AR. The timeline is getting close to encroaching on living descendants. The ancestors of Willis Battles beginning with his parents and going back a few generations are: Francis Nelson Battles 1816 AL - 1863 AR and Mary Ann LAWSON 1819 AL - 1870 AR; both buried in the Big Spring Cem., Mount Pleasant, Izard Co., AR. Samuel Battles ca 1788 VA - ca 1855 AL married Nancy WRIGHT, marr. date Nov 18, 1805 in Oglethorpe Co., GA William Noel Battles 1757 VA - 1840 AL married Elizabeth HOPPER ca 1770 VA - ca 1838 AL; marr date Mar 26 1786 in Amherst Co., VA I thought I'd list this for anyone interested in this line. gen -------------------------------------------- On Sun, 4/20/14, Jean Cuevas <jeanmayfield@comcast.net> wrote: Subject: Re: [ARIZARD] Hightower, Jacobs and ancestors To: arizard@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, April 20, 2014, 9:41 PM There are still Hightowers in AR. I'm sorry, I lost the question on an Aunt "Sookie" (sic). Sookie was an old nickname used for ladies named Sue or Susan or Susannah. It seems I can remember my grdad calling me that a few times, but he's been gone 50 years now, and my memories of him are somewhat hazy at times. gen
I have a James Ray b. ca 1834, his parents were Eaton Ray and Rachel Battles. I don't have any further information on him. I have a SMALL file on the Ray family due to the Battles connection. Francis Elizabeth "Fannie" Battles married Newton Manley "Newt" Herron. Rachel would have been Fannie's great aunt. I have the Battles/Ray line in Rutherford, Wayne and Tryon Counties in TN. I'm not sure how near Bedford co. would be to these other counties locations. Sorry Jean, that's the best I have. gen -------------------------------------------- On Sat, 3/8/14, Jean Cuevas <jeanmayfield@comcast.net> wrote: Subject: [ARIZARD] RAY To: arizard@rootsweb.com Date: Saturday, March 8, 2014, 1:57 PM Hi Everyone, Is the weather improved in AR?
