    3. Burrel Prater married Jane Casey, sister of John Wes Casey. John Wes Casey married Sarah 'Capel' Battles, sister to my gggrdad, Elijah Battles. One of J.W.'s sisters married a Timothy Reeves, one married a Henson Ray. Ed is my dad's cousin, so I'm going to say most probably. June would be able to answer that better than me, I think. gen -------------------------------------------- On Tue, 4/22/14, Betty McCollum <betmac@centurytel.net> wrote: Subject: Re: [ARIZARD] family surnames, Izard, Fulton, or Sharp Counties To: arizard@rootsweb.com Date: Tuesday, April 22, 2014, 2:11 PM Gen:     I am a "straight line" descendant of the Wayne County, Tn. 3. Have a ? Betty Mc and Jean, were any of your Prater's from Cannon, Warren or Coffee Counties in TN. My Haley's and Pendleton's were from Cannon and Warren, can't remember how the Praters connect to those two families of the top of my head, but I remember that Benjamin Pendleton bought a bunch of land from an Archelus Prater in Warren County. Does that Prater ring any bells? Ellen On Tue, Apr 22, 2014 at 7:06 PM, Jean Cuevas <jeanmayfield@comcast.net>wrote: > Betty, > > As you can see, the message made the list. 3. I don't know how or who they came here with; wish I did. I know that my Gr-gr-grandmother Elizabeth Prater was the d/o Martin and Nancy Prater of Wayne Co., Tn. Many people have confused my Martin Prater of Wayne Co. with his cousin Martin Luther Prater of Cannon Co., Tn. (I also had kin in Cannon County...Caruthers, Faulkenberry.) Martin and Nancy had five children: (1) Holly Franklin Prater who md. a Winnie (maiden name unknown). They are on the 1850 Census for Lawrence Co., Ar. Winnie died and he married to Louisa Hester who was a d/o Franklin and Wincy Jackson Hester. Wincy Jackson Hester was a sister to my Gr-gr-grandfather Lemuel Deberry Jackson who md. (2) Elizabeth Prater, and she was a sister to Holly Franklin Prater. The other children were: (3) Nancy Prater who md. James A. Williams in Wayne Co., Tn. (4) Martha Jane Prater md. James David (or David James) Faulkenberry. James David Faulkenberry was a brother to another one of my gr-gr-grandmothers, Mary Faulkenberry Caruthers (Cannon County). (5) Burrell Prater who was the youngest, and he married Jane Casey in Wayne Co. Both parents, Martin and Nancy, were deceased by the time the 1850 census was taken. The 4 older children are in Arkansas in 1850, but Burrell is still in Wayne Co. in the home of his grandparents, Bryce Bazil and Martha Elizabeth Riley Prater when the 1850 census was taken. Because the 1850 census didn't list how each one was kin to the head of household, many people have thought that Burrell was the son of Brice B. and Martha, but that isn't true. I have been in contact with descendants of the 2 brothers and 2 sisters of Elizabeth. Burrell and his wife Jane later came to Arkansas. Then they all went to Texas. The reason I am going into detail on this is because I thought some of this information might help someone. If anyone has any questions I will be glad to try to answer them. Betty Mc

    3. You can tell I haven't been doing much reading for a long while. I just saw you discussing Christmas pudding, and saving it from one year to the next. If I remember correctly, our FRUITCAKES were able to be stored for a very long time, because of the alcohol that was ladled over them, every so often, while they were in storage. I guess it acted like a preservative. Fruitcakes weren't just a holiday item, it was a food that could be carried on long journeys, and not only thought of as tasty, (way back then at least), but they were full of good stuff to keep a body healthy. The fruits and nuts baked into them packed a nutritional punch that you couldn't get any other way. I'm sorry, I'm so slow picking up on old messages, but I sure am enjoying reading them now. gen
