    3. Hello, Dolores! You must learn to do this!  There are sixty (60) pages of RAINES marriages in Arkansas. It was only couple days ago that I sent step-by-step explanation to Jim and Judy.  I know they were successful as they sent post to List.  And Vera has posted address since then.  Eventually they will have all LDS records here for all states.  Volunteers enter these records and it may take a while.  They have census records in this program.  I've been using Texas deaths since Vera posted the information about two years ago. I've been seeing you all over the map for years.  You will be happy to have this. Let me know if you need the instructions I posted. Peggy {KING} TRUESDELL

    1. [ARIZARD] Reply to Beth - school, party, Cozort
    2. Marsha Boles
    3. Hey Beth! About me and Izard County: I am about 4th generation born there and transplanted bef. 5 yo to Memphis – about 180+ m. from Wiseman. My dad farmed there before and after WW II and while he was keeping his head above water farming, I guess he was struggling. Related Izardites in Memphis recognized this struggle and planted the idea to move here for work. Of the 11 pairs of Uncles and Aunts my parents provided, I have 16 cousins. If you know my family and that seems distorted, remember dad’s brother married mom’s sister and gave me 2 double-cousins. Only 2 sets of my aunts and uncles remained life long farmers. None of my cousins actually farms. Connie stills lives on GGP's farm in Wiseman and dabbles a bit at farming. The only duplicate occupations among my cousins is nursing and teaching.  Just saying my family’s contribution to AR’s population has declined considerably in 50 years (only 4 cousins live there now). 4 other cousins never called AR home because they were not born there. So many of our lines are diluted from AR, yet still there is that tread!   Uncle Noel’s b’day 22 Aug: party was Sat, 21 Aug. at his former residence of 60+ years. Neighbors and family were invited in newspaper and over 100 attended. Nephew, Donnie Bookout, now owns the place and hosted event.  I believe Kay took guest book home with him (might ask Donnie about it). Met Norman Cozort there and that’s where interest started – he didn’t think we were related.  Aside from houseguest of Uncle Noel’s niece, Betty, I feel confident I was related to everyone else there! BBB could give you a better run down on guest - I am bad with names, might get half of them.   Wiseman School House:  mom and all sibling’s went there. Dad’s cousin taught there (Orpha Hailey Cleveland) and mom’s 2nd cousin’s Eula Montgomery taught there as well. Mom says my brother went there but he disputes this and says he was always at Violet Hill until we moved. I think mom went to the old Wiseman school too but she has very poor recall of the event. She mostly remembers consolidation and other community schools moving to the present school mentioned (I may be wrong, but think that is when Oxford and Day kids too). Then there was another consolidation and Violet Hill was their school.                                                                                 I have never been in the building but know right where it is.  Seems like I took my GP to vote there once but I stayed outside for some reason. Last year I called the sheriff to thank him for sending jail work crew to clean up the cemetery and he said there was federal money available to help preserve the school house.  I passed that on to 2 other sources and don’t know where that went. Other alumni – just guessing, Langston, Jones, Tanner, Williams, Harber, Bookout, Moser, Montgomery, Hightower, Warden, Hailey, Boler, Burns, Gault, Pitchford, Insell, Hill – Betty would know more. When I was small, we ‘went home’ 2-4 x’s per mo. We actually went to church there more than in Memphis. It was many years later that my parents actually moved their church membership from Wiseman. I know a lot about Wiseman, but there is much more I don’t know. I only get back 1 or 2 ‘s per year now. While I would love to attend the school function next week, I can’t. Birthday week for mom and my daughter and we have plans.  Sure wish Betty (or you) would summarize the meeting for us on the list.  I know others would be seriously interested.   Cozorts Progenator seems to be Thomas Cossart 1464 France.(some royal blood comes in here). Thomas decendant: Jacques Cossart 1595- French-Huguenots relocated to Holland in religious movement. Family I seek are devotedly protestant (mostly COC with Bapt, Meth & a sprinkle a few others for balance). By 1770’s there were Cozart’s and Cozort’s  in NC (religious movement again) and they get harder to trace. Branches for AR seem to have migrated south from NC. They have spent time in TN, GA, and AL.  Large contingent in TN (near AL/GA border) and dropped off branches in all those states, with a trace in Vicksburg, MS.  Funny thing is so many of then brushed through AR and on to OK, TX, WA, and CA. Sound familiar? I have come to expect it! The only common occupation among the AR Cozorts seems to be land speculation and construction.  From heavy construction and road building there was progression to building trade, real estate developers and agents.   Line I have interest in lived in Wiseman and around Salem. From there they spread out pretty well – north west AR and MO up to St. Louis.  Many of them return to Morriston Cem. – Fulton Co., AR but they are NOT exclusive there either. Cape Girardeau,  Mammoth Springs, Cassville, Thayer, Poplar Bluff, West Plans, Senath, House Springs, Waldron – just all over MO and places beyond! (MI, KS) D/o CHC: Bessie Lee Cozort D/o CHC: Gracie Bell Cozort m. Leo Preston D/o CHC: Edgar Perry Cozort m. Artie Dawson Florence and Unknown Female Cozort - sisters of CHC. When I find these last 3 of (Chesley Harrison & Flossie Ida Moser Cozort) 8 children, and 2 sisters - I am quitting!  As of yet, I haven’t ck’d land records yet. Kinda the last resort to find females. Preston husband doesn’t sound familiar enough to anticipate success there. However, might try for Edgar before I quit. (middle name ‘Perry’ is intriguing).Only Little Rock, Pulaski Co., AR connections seems to be dying there - remember way back then, you had to go to Little Rock, Memphis or St. Louis for good hospitals. Jonesburo didn't develop quickly and Salem didn't have a hospital until the 1960's.  I spent the night in Salem hospital in early 1970's with my grandfather because no one on duty knew how to read the cardiac monitor they put on him. Intensive care (?) was the first room next to the nurses station!   Herbalist:  I can’t remember - wasn’t there a famous Hively lady ? I was a regular volunteer at my daughter’s elementary school.  Got close to the librarian, she had written an herbalist guide to natural cures and treatments.  Often shared treats like – micro brewed ginger or root beer (non-alcoholic and no preservatives). She would caution me to hide the bottles to avoid down riff-raft rumors at school. After generations born in those hills, mom say grandmother only used a few things from the woods.  Sassafras for tea and maybe dandelions. Dad’s folks bought assafidity (can’t spell it and forget what’s in it for chest colds).   Just a word to new folks:  jump right in here! Peggy, Beth and I have written long post this week.  Yours can be brief. Tell us something about yourself and your memories of life and times in Izard County. There is nothing like sharing and comparing notes. Were you ever a student or voted at Wiseman school? Did you loose your old school to consolidation, what happened to the building? These are little tidbits of history that are lost if not shared. Doesn’t have to be much to generate discussion.   Much affection to all for sharing, Beth  . . . . Marsha --- On Tue, 9/21/10, Beth Cooper <bpc4u@sbcglobal.net> wrote: Marsha, How familiar with Wiseman?  and how close are you ? Did you realize that the next quarterly meeting is going to be in Wiseman at the wonderful 1930's little red brick school there where you turn to the Wiseman Cemetery? I saw the interior for the first time last Sat when so many people were already over there cleaning up the interior. How long ago was the 101th birthday party of Noel Moser----lately? (I have not had the chance to read much anytime lately) Would you know any of the individuals that went to that little school? Our own BettyBB will be doing the program on Wiseman and surrounds! It should be a very special event because there are a few that went to school there in their early years. Hope everyone will put this on their calendar, it's at 2:00pm Sunday 3 Oct 2010 and bring a friend who might be interested or entertained. It is a precious little building that appears to be structurally sound, now has a new roof----I believe was retired as a community center six years ago, at least that was when the last voting took place in the building. I'm told that it has the distinction of being the first consolidation in the state. ( All of you educators need to respond on this one, as I am very lacking in information about school consolidations and such!)) Anyway, the Fall meeting will be something so plan for it now!!! Back to your info, Marsha!!! It always fascinates me when one child out of a bunch moves away! When I saw the exit of the couple to Russellville, AR and realized that they died there----it always makes me wonder "What was the motivation? A better Job? better land to farm? less rocks in the field? Was the wife's ancestors there? What precepted the move?   I'm utterly always fascinated to discover there was someone who stepped out on their own and braved the different world and liked it enough to stay once there. And there again, like most of us that left, can't wait to get back or go visit! I love the situation about the spellings (almost as bad as my Brashear bunch, think they changed the spelling to dis--associate from those having gotten themselves in a heap of trouble though?) Ok, Marsha---I have to ask where exactly in MO across the AR stateline did they live? and what mostly were the occupations? If they were into timber, it is a wild goose chase, if they did stuff for the railroads it might be easier but still not predictable, and if they were anyway, involving in providing steers for the military you may be looking til------- If these folks had little businesses in towns or were involved with town or county government you will have much better success in seeing where they ventured to. Can you enlighten us any on occupations or have you collected that far? It would be interesting to know what many of these families exited on? Were they all farmers or partime farmers that taught school or preached to bring in revenue. It seems you can always tell the not to dedicated farmers as they usually find other things to do (even with the excuse that they can't possibly make enough money for the family to live from----i.e. my g gf Peck {he was not a farmer and had no interest in it, his wife on the other hand was not only a farmer, but a pretty good cattle manager and a trainer of young people to appreciate what they could grow and what medicines they could make from herbs that they grew------cat is out of the box----now, you all know why I am an Herbie---refuse to take most commercial drugs and feel there is much more benefit to the human body with natural healing on gentler terms with herbs and other home remedies. Old Ancient Wisdom seems to benefit the most! Back to the Cozorts & associated spellings, interesting things are entrinced. Some of us have no idea why we can sit perfectly still listening to Waggoner or Bach or Beethoven, yet some county/western crying, wallening sound drives us up the wall. Think it is ancestorial sounds engrained from way beyond our knowing that influence our receptive ears. The Cozorts & associated spellings that you have collected are impressive! Do you have knowledge or speculation about where they were prior to the Fulton Co., AR area. What was the previous hop in their scotch? Are these folks like the eldest dau of ole Daniel Hively---after the kids get half or beyond grown, the whole family just vanishes?  I hope not----that Hively one is still bugging me! What is your speculation, Marsha? Any traces of the families afterwards in county records? Did you plow through any land records? You think these are the ones that came to Little Rock and Pulaski County? I haven't been able to reach my friend in Des Moines, Iowa---she has a huge family of boys and I'm sure it is school starting time as well as those going off to different colleges so we may not hear for awhile but if it is any consolation---this is how we met----were both attending a major multi-day arts function at the AR Arts Center. We were probably the only two people there without make-up and feeling very out of place but loving the fabulous artwork and decorative fabric designs. She isn't Cazort but her husband is and she was there with (what she referred to as his "Most favorite Aunt"---who was a precious lady who had known people who had grown up in my house---that was the historic Lyon House two doors down from the AR Governor's Mansion----I moved from that house the week before Bill Clinton's original run for the White House!  What timing, I got out just as the secret service were beginning to be everywhere! The Cazort wife and Aunt truly enjoyed the tour of the yard that they Aunt had played in sometime (can't recall the years---but they are probably in my journals). When I get a chunk of time, I will be exploring these Cozort tidbits, looks to me like you have a gold mine, Marsha! Hope the couple you met are still around and would be interested in joining the IzCoHist&GenSoc for a tour of the 1930's little red brick school, Sun 3 Oct 2010 at 2:00pm. Y'll come! Beth ----- Original Message ---- From: Marsha Boles I started working on this line because of a Cozort I met at my Uncle Noel Moser's 101 b'day party in Wiseman.  He didn't think we were related, but I assured him - if he was related to my Uncle Noel that we were too. First thing I did was ask mom about them. She said there weren't any Cozorts around Wiseman, but there were some Cazorts. The way I see it . . . Soundex was invented way back before computerized genealogy.. . . .

    3. Hello! These are SSDI records found in Tulsa County, Oklahoma.  Because Wagoner County begins just east of Broken Arrow, checked it but did not find any.  I did not search for other spellings.  These records are from Rootsweb SSDI, which I've always preferred to ancestry.  They include the age calculation. 3. Marsha, These are a few additions of marriages and children that I discovered late last night. Hope it filled in a few spaces for you. There were contradictions in spelling although it was just from index so there can always be typos there too----but when it was different than what you had there is ++++( with the info) It wasn't nearly all the marriages so there were more relatives at Morriston, AR obviously!    and I never did make it to land records. Hopefully, you will beat me to that! ---cause I can't get there until tonight late. Beth   The family I am looking for was in Fulton & Izard Co. Try this: (1) Do "Search" for familysearch.org (2) On left side, Under "What's New" (3) Select: "See prototype for searching millions of records" (4) Prototype appears - Save it to your "Favorites" Select "Event" and select Type of Record. If you have someone in Texas, try a Death Record. Arkansas doesn't have them yet, but have Marriage Records. If you know county name, type (for example) Izard, Arkansas, United States. Enter name and "Search." If this does not work, let me know and will keep trying. Happy Hunting! I know you will enjoy this! June Jan 13, 1922 - Mrs Speak Dead Mrs Ella Speak age 44 years, wife of Jesse Speak of near Creswell, died at the Baptist Hospital in Little Rock last Tuesday, Jan 10th, following an illness of several days. The remains were forwarded to Creswell Wednesday and burial took place at the Palestine cemetery, east of that place, Wednesday afternoon, funeral services being conducted by Rev. D. H. Holland. Mrs Speak had been troubled with appendicitis for some time, and it was decided to take her to the hospital for an operation, which was performed about two weeks ago. She was thought to be recovering from the operation and able to return home and Mr Speak went to Little Rock to accompany her home, but she took a turn and died with in a few hours. Mrs Speak was a member of the M. E. Church and was a devout Christian, enjoying the highest respect and esteem of a large circle of acquaintances. She is survived by husband and four children.

    3. Marsha, How familiar with Wiseman?  and how close are you ? It is a precious little building that appears to be structurally sound, now has a new roof---- I believe was retired as a community center six years ago, at least that was when the last voting took place in the building. I'm told that it has the distinction of being the first consolidation in the state. (( All of you educators need to respond on this one, as I am very lacking in information about school consolidations and such!)) Anyway, the Fall meeting will be something so plan for it now!!! Y'll come!
