Great! Pat. I was hoping you might be reading and see this. I hadn't seen those names either but I did remember about g gf Johnson's sister's family moving from MacPherson in Baxter Co., AR on to Sharp Co. so thought it might be possible that some of the Greens moved that direction to. Didn't recognize those names either Glad to hear from you! Totally agreed, Peggy! You contributors did you best to keep it going! Has there been anything in months? I haven't seen a thing, but I did have to chuckle at Vera and Pat comments about everyone being asleep as I was trying to catch up after a very long absence from being able to read emails from the lists! Very glad to be back for a short time! Has anyone heard from Bernie? I had tried to contact her with information from a descendant of her Mother's sister's husband. Can't come up with the name right now but will dig it up again and just post to the list-----just in case she ever gets back to reading regularly again! Hope everyone has enjoyed this fall. I have lots of family history, especially Cooper, Nisbett/Nesbit, Roberts, some McLain, Montgomery, Gault, Ferguson, Moffatt, Paden, etc. You are possibly referring to James Hemphill Cooper, 1798-1869 buried in Harmony Cemetery. The family had settled in Mississippi, suffered malaria, his older children and their families went to Texas, and he and the younger ones settled in Izard/Fulton county. His daughter Frances C Cooper 1944-1867 married Joseph Calvin Nisbett 1831-1899 and they were the parents of William Henderson Nisbett and James Hemphill Cooper Nisbett. I have tried to place this Kitt Porter Rose in my wife's family and I believe this person is the same as Christopher Porter "Kitt" Rose b. 4 Jan 1840 d. 13 Mar 1919 Jackson Co. MO. He was married to Emily Jane Younger. His parents, and I am still working to prove this were Thomas Lewis Rose b. 1797, Lexington, KY, d. 29 Mar 1864 KY, and Margaret "Peggy" Kirkpactrick b. 1803, Fayette, KY. d. Aft. 1860, probably at Hazel Hill, Johnosn, MO. So to your question, I believe in this case the real name probably was Christopher, although in all census etc. he is listed as Kitt. Myrlene, Is this the church you told me that would have been in behind where the Todd's lived, on the North Side of Horseshoe Bend or was that a different church? If so that area would have been in Fulton Co between 1842 and 1874 and in Izard Co from 1825 until then and then afterward in Izard Co. Would it have had a connection to Wheeling. Wheeling is just south of Salem on Hwy 9. Even thought I didn't know a lot of the names I looking forward to ready this record. Thanks to all for getting it on for us to read. The way I understand location of church - - - If you are going from Horseshoe Bend to Glencoe, on the left side is there is a vacant natural gas service center. It is down a gravel road either just before the gas center or just behind the gas center. I was told to look for a white house and turn there. Church is gone but understand the footprint of building is there. Actually haven't been there (on my list). Can't find directions now but directions came from a list buddy that knew family living on the property. Hope that helps. I indexed some Mc Collums this morning....Andrew, Clara, Odell, Letha, and Viloet from Franklin Co Township of Black Oak. I am not sure how long it takes to get on line. It is from the Fed 1930 census. Just thought that you would like to know. My vote would be for a 'dual listing' if it isn't too much trouble. Some people aren't 'in depth' researchers enough to have studied county lines/formations and wouldn't think of looking in another locale. I know, this group has been doing this for so long, and have ties all over the place, but I'm trying to help some younger folks that have trouble just tracking their own gparents. Just a thought. gen AND I think you are doing a wonderful thing here!
I have a question on the name Kitt, we had several 'Kits' in mom's line, used as a nickname for Christopher. Marsha, the names that I checked, W.A.Gault s/b William A. Gault. The Dr James Cooper is a question for me. As far as I know he was not a doctor. . His father was a doctor, d. 1807, we have his will that says his medical insturments be sold at public auction. I think, for what its worth, that the James H. b.1798 d. 1869, in the church records was called Doc, and his grandson James H. b. 1872 was always called Doc. This may not be inportant any way. Izard County was formed in 1825, Fulton County in 1842. Prosperity Church, according to what I saw in the records was formed about 1859. Was the Church "located" at Wheeling Arkansas? I see that town in a few places in the records. If so, that technically places the church in Fulton County. I'm aware that as close to the county line as Wheeling is there were probably many members that lived in Izard County and most of the long time residents had roots in old Izard County before Fulton was formed. As a general rule of thumb for posting things like church records you post them to the county page where the church was located. In this case it would be a Fulton County page. Being the "boss" [ as well as the janitor and everything else dealing with the site ] I can post it where you all would rather have it posted.
