Thanks so much, Beth! Always intersted in MASON/BRASHEARS information. I have met a few "cousins" on line from the Daniel Mason/Mary Brashears line. Here's a refresher for all you Mason researchers This is directly lifted from Charles Brashear's Vol 2: Robert C. Brashear of North Carolina and Descendants in TN, KY, MO, TX, etc.published 1999 Page. 80 Family of RSB and Pheobe Children of Robert Samuel Brashears and Phoebe Nicks, all but the last two born in present-day Guilford Co, NC (ref: RSB's Bible and Will; Division of estate of Quinton Nicks); 1. Philip Brashears, b. 17 Dec 1755, d. before 1811. Philip is in the 1790 Census of Pendleton Dist., So. Car., with two daughters. Until about 1809, he is in Roane Co., TN, with RSB. 2.Margaret Brashears, b. 27 Feb 1758. In Bible, but not in Will. Likely, she died early, since another daughter was later named Peggy (i.e. Margaret). 3. Isaac Brashears, b. 23 Oct 1760. d. 25 Jul 1833. Isaac Brashears followed his father to Sullivan Co., NC (now TN), then to Roane Co., TN;after 1830, he and his sons migrated to Perry/Decatur Co., TN, and had hundreds, perhaps thousands, of descendents. 4. Capt Samuel Brashear. b. 6 Aug 1763 d. 25 Dec 1826; m. Margaret Eakin. Samuel followed his father to Sullivan Co., NC (now TN) married there and stayed on the family homestead. He served in the Revolutionary War and Indian Wars, and was appointed Captain of Militia when the Territory South of the Ohio was formed. He and his sons are the progenitors of virtually all Brashear families in south-eastern Kentucky. 5. (Margaret) Peggy "Pagay" Brashear, b. 14 Dec 1768 (per RSB Bible, but probably 1766; otherwise birth too near sibling Phoebe); m. Alexander Mahan 6. Phoebe Brashear, b.8 Jul 1768, d. 1834; m.1. Nathaniel Mason; m.2. Stephen Rice 7. Rebeccah Brashear, b. 9 Jan 1771, d. c1857 Roane Co., TN; m. Elias Roberts and had 11 children. (See Vol. 3, and Roberts Familes of Roane Co., TN by Snyder E. Roberts, for details). 8. Nancy Brashear b. 11 May 1773 d.12 Jul 1830 m. Zaccheus Roberts (See Vol 3 and Roberts Families of Roane Co., TN, as above) 9. Mary "Polly" Brashear b. 13 Mar 1776, d. 1819; m.1. Robert Gilliland; m.2. Daniel Mason 10.Elizabeth Brashear, b. c1778-79, probably in Sullivan Co., NC (now TN) d. c 1816. In RSB's Will, but not his Bible; m. c 1794 Jeremiah Satterfield. 11. Basil (Bazzel) Brashear, b. 8 May 1781, in present-day Sullivan Co., TN, d.10 Aug 1826; m. Margaret "Peggy" Horton, b. 16 Apr 1776. Basil cam to inherit Robert Samuel Brashears' land in Tennessee and the family Bible. Most of the children of Robert Samuel Brashears and Phoebe Nicks had large families in Tennessee. See Robert Samuel Brashears and Some Descendants in TN and Southeastern KY for details. June and Pauline! You are both right on track June, Do you possibly have a cemetery location for either Lettica Haggard Gillihan d. 1896 or the husband Allen Gillihan d. 1874 When I saw that relative closeness of Littchia Mason Haggart in 1830 USFedCen to Robert Livingston, it immediately made me wonder about Livingston Cemetery in present Stone Co., AR I can't remember ever having visited that cemetery but should. Since Littchia Mason Haggart is also in close proxemity to James Jeffery family, that might also be a possibility. Without Roger Dodger's Land patents book at hand, I don't know where the Haggart property was. Will be checking, checking Thanks Beth ----- Original Message ---- From: June Ramsey <junebug@centurytel.net> To: arizard@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, December 17, 2010 11:49:12 AM Subject: Re: [ARIZARD] [BRASHEAR] Phoebe Brashear & Nathaniel Mason I am sure this don't answer any question's ask but i have a Lettica Haggard b 14 Sept 1852 d. 1896 ar. married Allen Gillihan 1874 . her parents were Samuel B Haggard and Sallie Kizzia grandparent's would be Alfred L. How exciting to get the Mason Family research started for over the holiday. I expect it may take more time than one expects. I have always wondered, and still find varying opinions as to whether or not Daniel Mason was the son of Colonel George IV Mason and Ann Eilbeck, who were close neighbors and very good friends of George Washington. As you know George Mason IV was the one that drafted the Bill of Rights. I though Daniel Mason married Mary "Polly" Brashear on 6 Mar 1797 and Martha "Patsy" Hicks on 20 May 1819 after the death of Mary. I visited Gunston Hall, home of George IV Mason, in Fairfax VA. years ago. Harold, I'm sorry, I'm not informed about this I just think it is very fascinating that someone has come out with the info that Alexander Mason married Mary Mason who apparently was a first cousin. And that the same people think that this Mary Mason Mason was sister to Leticia Mason Haggard and that the two were daughters of Daniel Mason who eventually ended up in Greene County, MO. I had previously noticed that there was a J A Mason in Howard Co., MO in 1830, where my Brashear clan landed about 1837. When List-Mom Jean had pointed out that she believed her Jeffery/Mason connection to have been to Daniel Mason who was married to Polly Brashear, it all set me thinking and trying to check. Maybe we will get to bottom on these families sometime! Don, I just checked the 1830 USFedCensus Arkansas Territory-Izard 13 pg of 16 Jeffery, James Langston, Absalom Wear, Elijah Haggart, Littchia Weatherford,William Wooton, Lorenz D. Livingston, Robert I had remembered coming across this Littchia and wondering if she was who the Leticia (s) in the Mason family came from and this would make you wonder if it was the significant connection. I'll have to learn more about Alexander Mason and wife Mary Mason that were first cousins in TN/KY. All very interesting! Maybe will have the time to squeeze the research in. Well, I will admit that I've sort of been praying we wouldn't get another blizzard like we did last Christmas eve so you wouldn't have a problem going to the airport tonight. But, on the other hand, I don't know that I have a lot of influence in such matters.
