Janice, Thanks again, Yes the Piggs was a family of great distinction. John PIgg b. 1615 in England was a very strong supporter of King Charles and was a man of substance. He was a member of the established church and a cavalier, but his life became very unpleasant under the rule of Cromwell. Like many of his class when this happened in England they thought the colonies seemed the logical place to escape the persecution. As you can imagine the family became very involved in the new home land. Although John died in 1686 in Virginia, and did not get really involved in the Revolution in the Colonies, his family was very active and yes most of the were involved in the military. The family is actually quite easy to research, there is so much recorded about that class of folks. I expect his decision to leave England during the decade of Cromwell probably saved his head, as King Charles was not able to do. Vera Hi thanks for responding. I have only one Farris by name but know that some followed my Harmon grandparents to SW Oklahoma. The only name I have is my ggrandmother Phebe [Teba] Farris Harmon. That is one reason why I haven't researched the Farris lineage. I thought I'd give it a shot after some time. Dortha, hi, we have communicated quite a few times in the past. I'm not sure we had the exact connection down but concluded that we probably are related just dont know the exact tie. My gggrandmother was Catherine Melissa Satterfield who married William David Richardson. Catherine's parents were Patsy Harris and father Jesse Satterfield both moved from Greenville, SC as so many of my ancestors did. On my Farrises, I only have Phebe {Teba}Farris nothing else is known by me. The Bradshaws I have a lot of info, they were out of Alamance co, NC and many are still there. And their connection is my grandmother Greta Richardson' mother was a Bradshaw. Thanks to all the welcomes. This is a very close-knit list and is enjoyable to read. Thanks again. Dortha if you'd like to contact me about any possible connection on our mutual surnames, please do at my email address. Maybe we'll find that connection. About "cheat sheets", I use them all the time... I got a new computer in November, which uses Windows 7. First thing I found out was that Outlook Express does not work with Windows 7 (after I had been using it all these years) Now I am trying to learn Windows Live Mail, which has its own set of rules. I have been using Firefox as my browser for several years and was getting used to it, and now I find there are several websites that you "must" use IE as your browser for the website to format its data properly. So I have to keep "cheat sheets" on which programs must be used with which browser. Plus, I had to buy a new copy of Word, since my old XP compatible Word would no longer work with some of my documents. And some websites now only download data in PDF format....... Ah, what is this world coming to????.............. June, I was glad to read the wonderful news about Ed's latest test. I join you in praying that his next test is as good and he will be released. Your thoughtfulness to always remember those in military service gives me warm fuzzy feeling. We thank them for their service and sacrifice. Have a great day and stay warm during the expected cold spell this weekend. I have been up a while, and about coffee logged. Not to bad this morning only 39 out side. They talk like may get colder, and a chance of snow about Sun. Snow isn't as bad as ice though. Heard the road crew talking over the scanner, and they are getting ready for it I think. Ed and I have regular Dr appt today. Think we will pass it. ha! They are getting a little further apart lately. Don't know if that means they give up on us or we are doing better. Think may be the later. as long as Ed will do the cooking we won't starve . ha! Think he gets bored when he can't get out side much. he has to be real careful , and not take pneumonia .he has had a few bouts of it. The copd doesn't help. He just likes the kitchen, and I just let him go. Good thing about it he cleans up after him self. (and me too). lol I am still trying to learn this thing. Some times I mess up, and if I can't fix it (which is not to often) I holler! for Jan. She has been out of school for a while, but has to go back Tues. and she doesn't have time for much except study. She has to drive to Ash Flat, If the weather is to bad they close. Guess I better get off here and get around. Have a good day and God Bless every one especially the service guy's and gal's, and the sick and shut inn's. I personally like Foxfire, but the last computer I bought -- didn't! What I don't like, but my children do, is VISTA. Thankfully my computer doesn't have it on it, still has XP. gen --- On Fri, 1/7/11, Marsha Boles <marshab52@yahoo.com> wrote: > From: Marsha Boles <marshab52@yahoo.com> > Subject: Re: [ARIZARD] Morning "off subject" > To: arizard@rootsweb.com > Date: Friday, January 7, 2011, 10:06 AM > Mor'm June . . . > About that new computer: you need cheat sheets. > I've had folks say if you can learn FTM - you can learn > anything. > Of course, after 5-10 years, it should come naturally. > Then I started working at the jail - WOW . > One system for all from sheriff to janitor. Susie, Thanks so much for that sentiment. He truly will be sadly missed. As classmates have asked, I have suggested that they might consider memorials honoring Bob might be given to the Calico Rock Museum Foundation. The museum has many items from Bob's grand uncle (I believe it is) Otis Ivy that was killed in WWII. Mor'm June . . . About that new computer: you need cheat sheets. I've had folks say if you can learn FTM - you can learn anything. Of course, after 5-10 years, it should come naturally. Then I started working at the jail - WOW . One system for all from sheriff to janitor. Some little thing took 5 menus to reach ultimate place I needed.to add one sentence and the menus didn't meet with my logic. I started keeping cheat sheets (crib notes) then and have a 'Cheat Sheet' folder in my email for things like - "how to un-do spam." My new computer came this summer and my gurus change me over to Foxfire and bookmarks are still making me crazy. Just saying I - I feel your pain! Tried to do my own backup this week and didn't work - more cheat sheets coming! Marsha --- On Fri, 1/7/11, Junebug <junebug@centurytel.net> wrote: I am still trying to learn this thing.
