Hi June, I've been doing other things, have just started getting back into genealogy. Found a couple of new Pierson researchers, and have enjoyed seeing the photos they have posted to Ancestry.com. Someone put a picture of my 4th or 5th greatgrandfather's brother and his wife online. Be close to seeing what our guy might have looked like. Also someone posted the Pierson Family cemetery in GA, multiple tombstones, on findagrave.com. Dad reads arizard almost daily, and has let me know what he finds interesting, he told me Beth was looking for me. Evenin All Can some one tell us If Dora Wynn is still out there. She sent us a death certificate for my Great Grandpaw James Ferguson MONTGOMERY "born 10 December 1852 died 13 December 1933" at one time and we have misplaced hoping she could send it again. Thanks JIM
I forgot to mention that Family Search and Ancestry are not using the same index. On Family Search I found a relative that had the wrong first name attributed. On the census form the census taker used the abbreviation for Thomas, Thom. It was indexed as "Thane". [ We all know how bad some census takers penmanship was. When I looked at the image it was immediately obvious that it was "Thom" and not "Thane". ] Ancestry, on the other hand, had him as Thomas. Just an FYI. Be open to misspelled names in the Index. If there is any possibility it could be your family member always check the original image to be sure. On 09/05/2012 01:37 AM, Ellen Reesh wrote: > Jim and Judy, > The 1940 Census is on Ancestry. Jim, Look for the little x beside the name in the family listing, that is who gave the info. Also some of the indexers on Ancestry were a little goofy in some of their name interpretations, familysearch.org did a better job on their indexing. Ancestry farmed it out to India I think. familysearch.orgwas done all by American volunteers from all over the country. Jim and Judy, The 1940 Census is on Ancestry. It is FREE until the end of 2013. It is also on familysearch.org, but I find I can print it out better on Ancestry. Howdi All Did you all make it ok from the rain from that gulf thing. By brother in New Orleans said there are some places that took a hard hit with all the rain. He has moved just across the lake said he had some wind damage and lost power but back up going now. Is there some one that has found a good site to check out the 1940 census yet. I heard that the government has it indexed now but ant found it. May be like the check is in the mail Have a good one and thanks for any help Jim
