(off subject) Hi You Guys! I am coming out of hiding to say hello.  I think this has been a challenging year, and since I am still working, I seem to be not much good for anything!  I owe everyone an apology for not being actively involved.  If I ever get to retire, I know that I will be back in full swing! Junebug, if you are listening, I am scheduled for cataract surgery this upcoming week, and the next.  I hope mine goes as well as yours appeared to have.  I am scheduled with someone who is listed as an pioneer in this area, and has been doing it for 20 years, so I am hoping for good results.  I don't think on it, or I might get nervous.  From what he says, it's over quickly, and from all the testimonials, I will see much clearer. How is everyone?  I hope things are going well for each of you.  It's nice to see fall come to cool things down somewhat.  How's Oregon, Pat?  Starting to get a little colder in your area? Right now, I really could use some prayer for my oldest son.  He retired from the Navy in July and moved his family to Huntsville, AL.  Because of all the defense and military facilities there, he had very high hopes of getting a good job to provide for his family.  So far, all he has had is advice to network, network, network, which might be easy if he knew a lot of people, but being new to the area, that is not always easy to do.  But, he had a couple of retired officers who took him out to lunch and gave him some good advice, and he feels better.  It's just that with a major cut in defense scheduled with the present administration, and a lot of defense facilities scheduled to send out pink slips, it's not the best time to be looking for a job in those areas.  So, I have to believe that God is the ultimate Provider and that some door will open for him somewhere. But, I do appreciate any of you who feel led to pray. As for research, how are you all doing?  Any great discoveries?  I know some of the Jeffery kin scheduled a get-to-gether this summer.  How did that go?  Did any of you participate? I hope this will be a good week for you and hang in there, I think you will see some activity when the weather gets bad and people are indoors more. God Bless All. 2. Roger Harvell
    3. This is obviously an index with the details elsewhere. Some of the one I can account for... D.C. Anderson is Daniel Cansby Anderson who service was with Co. H, 27 Regt. Ark. Infantry, CSA, commanded by Capt. W. Russell, surrendered at New Orleans, LA by Gen. E.K. Smith, CSA to Maj. Gen. E.R.S. Canby, CSA, May 26, 1865, and paroled at Shreveport, LA, June 8, 1865. Daniel was the grandfather of Loyal Hulon Anderson who married my aunt Della Harvell. Catherine and Edna Billingsley appear to be the widows of Joshua and David Warren Billingsley respectively. Don't have their units, but they are certainly of the right age to have been in the war. G.B. Brucc(sic) is Gideon"Uncle Gid" Blackburn Bruce. "Uncle Gid" was a nephew of John Adkinson Byler below. Mahala Byler was the widow of John Adkinson Byler who served in Company F, of Colonel Freeman's Regiment, Confederate Army from 1 September 1861 until the close of the war. John Clouse is John J Clouse of the 31st Ark; Vol, McCroy Regiment of Infantry. Father-in-law of Samuel Harvell of Greasy Bottoms. Geo. W. Cornelius is George W Cornelius who was in Company F of Freeman's Regiment. George was an eyewitness to the Walker/Marmaduke duel. The last recorded duel in Arkansas where Confederate General Marmaduke killed Confederate General Lucius Marshal Walker on 6 Sep 1863. There are others here that I think I can identify with a little more effort, but I will close. I believe that James H. Howell here is, in fact, my great-grandfather James Henry Harvell. -----Original Message----- >From: Gen <[email protected]> >Sent: Oct 4, 2012 2:36 PM >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [ARIZARD] Confederate pensioners > >Well, I know Joseph Jones, my 2nd ggfather was a private in the Confederacy. >I can't vouch for anyone else. >gen > >--- On Mon, 9/10/12, Pat Brewer <[email protected]> wrote: > >> From: Pat Brewer <[email protected]> >> Subject: Re: [ARIZARD] Confederate pensioners >> To: "Vera Reeves" <[email protected]>, [email protected] >> Date: Monday, September 10, 2012, 12:02 PM >> Wow Vera, you always give us >> something to chew on don't you? >> >> But this really has me scratching my head.  These >> people are actually >> receiving these pensions based on what?  Just really >> confused, but as always >> appreciate these treasurers you find. >> >> Pat >> >> ----- Original Message ----- >> From: "Vera Reeves" <[email protected]> >> To: <[email protected]> >> Sent: Monday, September 10, 2012 9:04 AM >> Subject: [ARIZARD] Confederate pensioners >> >> >> > Some of you have seen this list. >> > Thought I would give you something to talk about. >> > >> > =========================== >> > Melbourne, Arkansas >> > >> > Thursday September 10, 1912 >> > >> > Ex-Confederate Pensioners >> > >> > >> > >> > Below is given a list of those who receive Confederate >> pensions in Izard >> > County, together with the amount each received this >> year. >> > >> > There are 158 pensioners in the county and they receive >> in the aggregate >> > $11,035.80. >> > >> > >> > >> >     page 1 >> > >> > Joe B. 1. [ARIZARD] Fall colors
    2. Myrlene Hastings
    3. We drove from West Plains, Mo(where we live) to Springfield, Mo. today. There was more color that we expected, that is a little farther north than Izard Co. but still in the Ozarks. This area has been really dry also. Hopefully we won't be disappointed. Myrlene

    3. As for fall colors, it's hard to say, just what it will look like this fall since a lot of trees lost their leaves because of months with no rain. There is some "dead" leaves but not because of the time of year. I' afraid it won't be as pretty as usual. -----Original Message----- From: Pat Brewer Sent: Wednesday, October 03, 2012 10:25 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [ARIZARD] Sure is quiet! I have a picture of my grandmother, Ollie Mae Hanks Grills with Erma Damrons /Damins (spelling?) and Ollies sister, Mamie Hanks Gilbert. Ollie was born in1889, they look to be teenagers or young women. .My mother said Ema was a cousin of Ollie. Ollie's mother was Sarah Elmina Byrd and Nancy Byrd was her half sister. They were daughters of Soloman Byrd. Any help would be appricated.. Thanks Later...Joyce
