    3. On ancestry.com there is a Thomas (1831)and an Andrew Hawthorn ( 1830, 1831, and 1832) that were on early census and tax records. Thomas was only listed for 1831. Andrew was listed on 1830, 1831, and 1832. That is all I found. Do you have a birth or death date for either? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Mary f. Jones Sent: Tuesday, November 06, 2012 5:17 PM To: izard Subject: [ARIZARD] Thomas and Andrew Hawthorn Can anyone out there on the list help me?  I am trying to find some sort of record of Thomas or Andrew Hawthorn in Izard Co.  I have found 'stories' about them in the Turnbo Manuscripts and Life in the Leatherwoods but I can find no record of them in the area that they are supposed to be in Izard.  The people that are connected to this line are saying that they are buried in the Talley Cemetery.  But I don't believe this is correct.  We cleaned that cemetery and found no unmarked graves there for a good distance around the know graves back into the woods.  Supposedly they lived 'at the mouth of Moccassin Creek'.  John Q. Wolf even says this was the land later owned by Isham H. Talley.  According to the platt book I have, I.H. Talley was the first person to own the land mentioned.  I have searched every record I know to search and can find no record of any Hawthorn or as Turnbo says they are sometimes called 'Hathburn'.  Stories are great and very interesting, but I would like to have some sort of hard documentation.  Can anyone suggest anything? 3. If you are even the least bit diabetic do NOT take Prednisone under any circumstances, unless your trying to commit suicide. Tracie is diabetic. A bit over a year ago she got a touch of bronchitis. Usual treatment before she was diagnosed diabetic has always been a few prednisone. She took a couple days worth and her sugar just went nuts. Took us three months to get it back under control. She now has to have two different insulin injectors. One slow acting and one fast acting. 3. pseudoephedrine That's the "old" Sudafed you have to show a photo ID for and get from behind the pharmacy counter in most if not all states. The "new" Sudafed, which contains phenylephrine, is still available OTC, but in my experience it doesn't work nearly as well as the old stuff. (Actually it didn't work at all for me.) I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. Pseudoephedrine can certainly be a nasty drug if you have any of the risk factors mentioned. Beware that decongestant nasal sprays can be absorbed and cause the same types of adverse effects as oral decongestants. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ellen Reesh To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, November 07, 2012 3:57 PM Subject: Re: [ARIZARD] Arizard. 3. Dale, Since you brought up cold and flu season....thought I would pass this word of caution about a nasty over the counter drug everyone should avoid...Sudafed (brand name) generic name sudafederin (sp?) it is in a lot of other over the counter drugs such as Nighquil and other combo cold remedies. Taking one 30mg tab (the box recommends 2 tabs I only took one) it caused me to have a stroke 12 years ago. I had no history of high blood pressure or any other high risk factors in my medical history and since it was not caused by a blood clot or a bleed in my brain and was caused by a blood vessel constriction the doctors attributed my stroke to having taken the Sudafed tab. Sudafed is a decongestant and is a constrictor, there are warnings on the box about not taking it if you have high blood pressure or kidney problems and a whole list of other warnings. It was definitely a life altering event and I have had to learn how to live with some limitations but I can function and am mobile but if I had known more about Sudafed I probably wouldn't have taken it. It is one of the main ingredients in METH! 3. While we're off topic anyway, another group of drugs to be wary of, especially with cold and flu season just around the corner, is the group of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adverse_effects_of_fluoroquinolones Some of the more common ones are Cipro, Levaquin, and Floxin with more being developed all the time. Baytril is a common veterinary version which is given to our pets as well as pumped into the poultry and beef we eat. These are dangerous drugs in susceptible people, and anyone can be susceptible, not just the compromised or elderly. A "black box warning" was added to these drugs a few years ago. If your doctor prescribes one of these drugs, do your homework and weigh the risks. There are often older, safer alternatives. I'm speaking from personal experience. Levaquin nearly killed me in the '90s and has permanently harmed a lot of other people. 3. Can anyone out there on the list help me? Mary

    3. Welcome back Glenna. Great to hear you survived the steroid pill, your warning should be noted by everyone, steroids in pill form or injected should not be taken lightly, think twice when your doctor recommends them, get a second opinion if you must. Had a similar experience, tho not as scary as Glenna's. Actually it is always prudent to question your doctor about any new pill he prescribes. Ask why, what are the possible side effects, if he can't or won't answer your question, get a second opinion, or get a new doctor. 2. Glenna Goodwin
    3. Betty Mc, I just saw an article you had written about my aunt, Lenora Cantrell Yancey--it was really a great article--lots of great info and very informative. I assume it was in one of your Down Memory Lane Books, so guess I will have to get around and order it.  For peopl e on the list, there were really alot of people in Izard Co. listed in it.Sorry I have been off the list for so long, I have had a spell  with Chron's and being anemic--Been gven several iron infusions--then decided my Chron's was the clupit--so they put me on Predisone--needless to say, that was almost the end of me!   I lost my mind, could not sleep, lost around 50 pounds--which I needed to, but what a way to do it.  I think it affected just about every thing in my body, but thank God, I am finally on the road to recovery.  The only permanent thing they found so far was some dementia, caused by it--which medication will  help --and I said I can function very well right now--so no complaints here!  The only warning I have for anyone, please read about all the side  affects of Predisone before taking it!  I knew I wasn't feeling right a few days after starting it, but Dr. said I needed it, so I took it, until I didn't know where I was or what was going on.  I did have sense enough to not let hubby throw away my pills, so they fazed me off them--but believe me, I completey did no t know where I was at or what was gong on for awhlile!   i have found out since then that several people have died from taking this--I can see why, because you don't know what you are doing!  God answere alot of prayers on my behalf!  Enjoyed catching up on some of my Arizard e-mails, and can definaltely say I am proud to be back on the list.  Glenna Goodwin

    1. [ARIZARD] ROBERT KAUFMAN
    2. Gail Coffman
    3. I HAD ASKED FOR INFO ON ROBERT COFFMAN AND I GUESS THAT HE HADN’T HANGED THE SPELLING YET BY 1851 WHEN HE DIED. IT IS SAID THAT HE WAS A PREACHER AND A BLACKSMITH. I HAVE THAT HE WAS BURIED IN BICKLE’S COVE CEMETERY IN STONE COUNTY. ANY INFO ON THIS FAMILY WOULD BE GREAT.

    1. [ARIZARD] Finleys-- Annita Fulton
    2. Pat Foster
    3. Hi Annita Thanks for responding. Please send me your email since it didn't show up on this reply and I'll send you a couple of pictures. Maybe somewhere, sometime we can get them identified. Someone somewhere has copies surely! Son enjoyed his fishing trip. Trout fishing was a first for him--he had done some bass, etc. And, getting away from the office to that atmosphere was great for him, too. Work is very stressful for him right now. Yes, I am amazed at the number of families that married into the Russell family. I have only found a few Greens but then there were a lot more Russells anyway. Harold Blevins, Others? Hi Pat, I've been reading your posts and I do have Finley information because this is my Granddad Taylor's side of the family. I have a 26 page document with repeats in it because it came out of ancestry.com and the same information would be entered in both husband and wife's site. I can send you an attachment if you would like it. The Green name many fall under my Grandma Taylor too - she was a Green, but I haven't looked there yet. Harold's relatives and mine cross paths too. You sure can't talk about anybody in Izard County, because you're probably related to them??? right??? I'm jealous of your son's fishing trip - we always went to Bull Shoals when I was a kid and camped out and fished. The only thing I don't miss about it is those big old misquitoes! Don't you live in Guthrie? Annita (Taylor) Fulton > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Date: Sat, 3 Nov 2012 23:06:02 -0500 > Subject: [ARIZARD] Finleys?
