Small world. I wonder if we’re cousins? Geo. W. who is a brother to your Sarah married my 2nd great grant aunt. If so, probably very distant. Would have to know a lot more to try to figure it out. I have found Robert H. (Henry?) Richardson in 1860/1870/1880/1900 census so far. He seems to have married ca. 1874 according to the 1900 census. It says md 26 yrs. In 1880 he has a wife, Amanda O. and in 1900 she is Oliva M. and in the Hayden cemetery book she is listed as Olivia Amanda “Mandy” Eckles, wife of Robert H. Richardson. Then I went to FAG and there is an obituary for their son, Harrison Asbury which states his mother was Mandivil “Mandy” Head. I haven’t been able to find a marriage record yet, so does anyone know what the wife’s correct name is? The 1900 census says she is the mother of 11 children, 8 living in 1900 and there are five still at home. Anyone know who the other children are/were? The obit was provided by our very dear Vera Reeves, and she was a very careful researcher, so as you can see....I’m confused. Nothing new, really, I get confused often. Wilma Norton

To Jerry Robertson....Is your Sarah a daughter of John B. Dixon and Maranda? I believe my information came from Owen Dixon's book. If that is correct and your Sarah was their last child, then my great grandmother Mary M.J., Born Arril 4, 1845 in Bedford County, Tennessee was an older sister to Sarah. Hope We are cousins! I am a Manna House volunteer and many times people will bring pictures there that they no longer want. Anyway I try to find someone who would like to have these pictures. I have two sets of pictures that I would like to describe and see if there is anyone who might want these. I have 6 older picturesin the first set. The first is of a young woman, maybe in her 30's. Looks like a studio picture and written on the front is: "With Love, Eleanor". With this are two more that are in what looks like, but probably isn't, a leather frame, brown with gold trim. They are 5 x 7's and look like kodiak/camera pictures that have been enlarged. One shows a good looking man standing by a snowman in front of (looks like) a 3 story house. The other shows the same man only this one has a young girl with him, snow on the ground; in front of same house. The man is wearing a soldiers cap in both pictures. In one he has on what looks like a windbreaker jacket, in the other he has on a long coat. The next one is of a man and woman who are probably in 40's, or 50's. I would guess this may have been made in the early 1900's. Next is a picture of a little boy and girl. The little boy, maybe 3 yrs., has on a long dress, and the little girl has a dress that maybe was worn in the early to mid 1900's; has a big bow in her hair. The next picture is in a cardboard frame that opens up. The picture is about 2 3/4 in. wide and 5 3/4 in. long. On the picture is engraved what looks like: GUITES. It is a young girl, very pretty, long hair, maybe 13-16 yrs. The last one is a more recent picture of a young woman, short hair. She is wearing a big brooch at the collar of her dress. It has been inscribed "Lovingly, Mac" (or could be Mae). This was made at Nicholson Studio, 1308 Peoria Life Building, Peoria (Illinois?) If anyone has any knowledge of these, please let me know. Some of the problems arose from the terrible penmanship of the census takers and the difficulty in transcribing that information. I wanted to share with you that one error that has been perpetuated is the wife’s name for John B (Brushy) Dixon b. 1812. Everyone is in agreement that her first name was Maranda/Miranda, but she has, for some time, been listed as Clemmons. In fact, her last name was Fleming/Flemming, daughter of James Fleming. That family can be found in the 1820 census of Bedford County TN. One proof I have is that when James Dixon (their son) was buried at Moody Cemetery in Howell County MO, his mother’s name was clearly listed as Miranda Flemming. Also, there is another brother to Jim Dixon buried there, and his mother’s name is also listed as Miranda Flemming. In the 1900 Census, she is living with John "Tonkey" Dixon and wife, Fannie Byler and is listed as a "Boarder" and is 84 years old with her birth listed as May 1816 and a Widow. Also have this info.: Farmer, cabinet maker, fiddle player, and Justice of the Peace. He built a wagon shop at his home and began to build the wood work of wagons, while Jim Cooper, a black-smith, did the iron work for him. He made wagons for the entire community. Most all his children played the violin. His home was three miles west of Melbourne. He was one of the fiddler supplying music for dances at the Centennial celebration held at Newburg July 4, 1876. 1860 Census, Izard Co., Mill Creek Twp, page 381, Jul 5, 1860 Fam 361: John Dixon, M. 47, bn TN Maranda, F, 44, bn TN Amanda 17, F., bn TN Thomas 16, M., bn TN Mary C., 14, F., bn TN Fannie, 12, F., bn TN Minerva, 11, F., bn TN Martha A.,10, F., bn TN John F., 8, M., bn AR Sarah G.A., 6, F., bn AR 1870 Census, Izard Co., Mill Creek Twp., page 217 b, Jul 21, 1970 Dixon, John 57, MW, Wagonmaker, born TN Maranda, 54, FW, born TN Phamy, 24, FW, born TN John F., 19, MW, born AR Sarah, 15, FW, born AR On Monday, December 30, 2013 11:14 AM, Wilma Norton <wilma.norton@cox.net> wrote: I'm wondering if anyone has knowledge of Miranda's surname? Wilma: I went to the Find A Grave site at Moody Cem., Howell Co., Mo and found James Madison Dixon, born Jul 8 1840 Bedford Co., Ten, died May 29 1922 Howell Co., MO. Death Cert #17643. I'm Second Great Grand Niece to John B. Dixon. Also found several Family Trees on Ancestry.com listing Miranda Fleming as daughter of James Sadler Fleming with wife Jane Ash and spouse as John. B. Dixon, with children that I have listed. That Fleming line went back several generations, On Monday, December 30, 2013 1:20 PM, Wilma Norton <wilma.norton@cox.net> wrote: Oops, I just realized I have two connections to John Brushy Dixon, their son John Franklin who married Sarah Frances Byler, she is my 2nd cousin 3 times removed!
