    3. Hi John, Nice to hear from you again. I hope we still have Hightower researchers on the list, and someone who may be able to shed some light on the mysteries. The Hightower family name is also very prominent in this area of Georgia, and although your Hightowers were from KY, it makes me wonder whether in due time, the lines would come from GA, since it was one of the first places for early settlement from Europe. Do you mind if I ask who was your latest Hightower connection in Izard County? Did any of your family stay in the area? Thanks. 1. [ARIZARD] Hightower, Jacobs and ancestors
    2. John S. Adams
    3. I'm checking in. Some years ago I corresponded with several people on this list regarding my HIGHTOWER ancestors. I know there were a lot of HIGHTOWERs in Izard and surrounding counties in the 1800's. My gggrand-parents were Mary Jane HIGHTOWER and William P. JACOBS, son of Mathias JACOBS and Elenor COLEE (or COLA). They married in Dec 1855 in Izard Co. Mary Jane was also called Mary NEAL. Her mother, Nancy, was apparently first married to a HIGHTOWER and then to George W. NEAL (or NEEL) about 1848, probably in AR. NEAL and Nancy had 14 + or - children between them, his, hers and theirs. Their children, as best I can determine from several censuses were:Manual NEAL, b. 1832 TNEliza Jane NEAL, b. 1833 TNRuben (Rueben) NEAL, b. 1835 TNMary Jane HIGHTOWER, b. 1838 ARArchibald HIGHTOWER, b. 1840 ARSepta HIGHTOWER, b. 1842 ARJames P. NEAL, b. 1842 TNAlexander HIGHTOWER, b. 1843 AREli NEAL, b. 1848 ARLewis NEAL, b. 1852 ARAmanda NEAL, b. 1854 ARWilliam NEAL, b. 1856 ARGeorge NEAL, b. 1859 ARHenry NEAL, b. 1864 AR It would appear that the NEAL children born in TN were George's with a previous wife; the HIGHTOWER children were Nancy's with her previous husband; and the NEAL children born in AR were George and Nancy's together. Some on-line genealogies have Nancy's maiden name as CHAPMAN. I have also seen her name as CHATMAN, CHIPMAN, SHIPMAN, and SHATTUCK. She was born about 1816 in KY, but all of her children were apparently born in AR. She and George NEAL are still alive in 1880 in the census in Izard Co. Several of her children, including Mary Jane, used both surnames at times during their lives. In fact, my grandmother told me her grandmother was Mary NEAL. However, William P. JACOB's Civil War pension application gives his wife's name as Mary Jane HIGHTOWER. Some on this list have speculated that Nancy's first husband was Harrington or Herrington HIGHTOWER. I haven't found any proof for this. So the things I'm still trying to determine after all these years is:1. What was Nancy's maiden name? Who were her parents?2. Who was Nancy's HIGHTOWER husband? I would appreciate any help anyone could give me in finding sources to answer these questions. John S. 3. Hi Billie. The weather has been crazy this year, for sure. We just are coming out of another cold snap here in Georgia, and I hope it's the last for this year! Sorry about the possibility of hail and snow. You know, I would love to see Oklahoma. When Dad was overseas during WWII, I lived with my mom in OK. Probably Claremore, since that's where Dad's mom is buried. All I remember about Ok, is Sulpher Springs and finding a park with a drinking fountain, and not being able to get enough of the water! :) I was a strange kid! Loved the smell of that water, kerosine, and gasoline! I have Richardsons in my family tree, although I have never really tried to research them. An Elizabeth Richardson, born June 1809, died October 06, 1872 in KY, married Jonas Houser March 1829 in KY. That's all I know about her. I know that a lot of the Jefferys married Richardsons in AR. So glad you found the burial place for your adoptive father. Jean C At 07:39 PM 4/12/2014, you wrote: >Just springtime in Oklahoma. Had some really beautiful days. 3. Good Afternoon, Izard Cousins! How is everyone? The list has become very quiet. I suppose many of you are finding everyday life is taking up time and energy. :) Right now, I have been working on taxes, and it's a challenge, isn't it? I don't know about you guys, but I would love to see the Fair Tax put into place! Anyone with new discoveries in your family tree? I got my cousin to purchase a Family Tree Maker so that she could be a second source for storing all the discoveries, so that they are not lost. It's funny, when I first started the quest for family information, the internet seemed to be alive with people on all the lists actively involved in genealogy. Now, no matter what list I am no, it's hard to pry out any activity. Do you find that on the lists you belong to? I hope for any new folks who are hungry to find information, that you will introduce yourselves and tell us who you are looking for. Perhaps, we have the answers, or at least a few of them. :) Hope all of you are doing well! Blessings, Jean Cuevas

    3. It's springtime in California. The days in Thousand Oaks have been in the 70's with Los Angeles at least 10 degrees hotter. We sure didn't have much rain this year so it's really going to be dry this year. Have been slowly plugging along with my genealogy research. Just back from my daughters of the confederate meeting. Hve 2 more weeks left of my bible study then can get actively back to researching. Have a great weekend everyone. 1. [ARIZARD] Bruce Family Reunion, 2015
    2. Betty Cavner
    3.  We are planning a Bruce Family reunion at Lake Texoma on Memorial Day weekend (May 24/25 2015). We had several reunions years ago in Melbourne and Monett, Ar. There are a lot of surnames related to the Bruce's from Izard Co. and we sure want them to come. We have 44 now who say they will be there. The Pavilion holds about 150 people and has a full kitchen for preparing and storing food, plenty of room for kids to play. The marina has all facilities for boating, etc. There are very nice hotels close by, we stayed at one in Durant at our last reunion, it's 12 miles, and takes only a few minutes to get to the lake. There are electrical plugs all around the pavilion for Computers, IPads, fans, etc. Several of us bring our genealogy information and exchange data and pictures. I brought my lap-top and downloaded a lot of pictures from other people's cameras. I also brought my printer, which I will do again. I printed out my genealogy data in 05 and it is in three-4" binders. Need to print it out again, hopefully before the reunion. If anyone has any ideas on how to contact people who might be interested, but not on the list, please e-mail me. Thanks so much, Betty in OK IN GOD WE TRUST

    3. A guy I know saw Kerry Wayne Evans , the bad guy, at a funeral around Hardy last week and was talking to him about the show and Kerry Wayne, said it is all made up and Crowbar Russell's land had been paid for since the 1960's. Remember this is a reality show without the reality, only real local people with a made up script!! We watch it and enjoy seeing the familiar scenery, I think it will help Hardy more than it will hurt. The recent news release on the sub machine gun of Kerry Wayne could have been a made up thing too, just to get more interest in the show. A few years back Crowbar Russell had a fishing show on Kait Channel 8 in Jonesboro. On Thu, Mar 20, 2014 at 10:47 PM, Billie Walsh <bilwalsh@swbell.net> wrote: > I've only watched a couple episodes. On one hand I see deep feelings of family, even extended family, the connection to the land and the sense of honor that one associates with the people of the Ozarks. On the other hand it's almost like it's happening a hundred years ago rather than "now". The last time I was in Hardy I didn't find anyone quite as .......... I hate to say backwards but that does kind of describe it. I believe all the people involved are native to Hardy, or at least that area. Evans is the "bad guy". He is buying up land at low price and dividing it to sell to "flat landers". It's all about getting money and as much as possible. No respect for traditions. I don't know if its a true story or not. 2. I have tuned in to that a couple of times. I was interested to see if I recognized any of the area, and I honestly did. But I didn't recognize any of the people in he show. But maybe I've seen them in the grocery or the service station, etc. At least none of them were people we went to church with when back there, or seen at a dance. But an unregistered machine gun, goodness even I know better than that!! Thanks Billie. 1. [ARIZARD] Windows XP Support ends April 8: What Are Your Options?
    2. Billie Walsh
    3. On April 8, Microsoft will cease all support to consumers who are still running Windows XP. On the same day, the company will also end support for Office 2003. This is despite that fact that millions of PC owners are still running Windows XP. I always felt that Windows XP was the most useful version that Microsoft ever produced. Windows Vista, Windows 7, and especially Windows 8 always felt like "downgrades" to me. If you are one of the many XP or Office 2003 users, you can be assured that your computer will *NOT* stop running on April 8. However, you do need to know the risks involved when running obsolete software. You also need consider your options and decide if you want to stay with what you have or if you need to upgrade to a later version of Windows or to Macintosh or Chromebook or Linux or perhaps to a tablet computer.
