Hi All, If anyone takes the West Plains Quill, could you look for an obit for Mildred Shipley. She died yesterday Sept 6th. We will be away for a few days, but if you post it, we will get it when we check our computer again. Thanks, Jim and Wanda
The Cemetery book shows: Gault, Mary Luella 1872 - 1961 Gault, William Orr 1867 - 1961 The first few months on the film of the 1961 Calico Rock Progress are missing. I didn't find them in the Melbourne Times. William O. Gault 29 md 5 May 1896 in Izard County Mary L. E. Hightower 23 The marriage info above came from the Family Search Record site. In the marriage books it shows her as Mrs Mary L. E. Hightower of Violet Hill. 1900 Jefferson, Izard, Arkansas head of house is William O.Gault Ancestry index shows the wife as Olla but the film looks like Ella to me. Audie O. age 2 daughter. Minnie A. Hightower age 9 as daughter-in-law. ? ? ? I believe it should be step-daughter. Laura Redmon age 69 is listed as mother-in-law. Arkansas Prior Birth Index Gault, James Burl b. 6/18/1901 in Izard County mother's maiden name Lou Ella Redman Sorry no obituaies. ========================== > Lee Ann, Uncle Will Gault was a brother to my grandfather, John Calvin > Gault. Lee Ann, Uncle Will Gault was a brother to my grandfather, John Calvin Gault. My parents and I visited uncle Will and Aunt Ella many times. They both died after I was married and moved away, but I think it was in the 1950's and I think they were burried in the Violet Hill Cemetery. Vera might be able to find an obit for them. Aunt Ella was also a half-sister to my husband's grandmother Rebecca (Becky) Ann Redman. In the 1920 census they were listed as Will R. and the kids names were misspelled. I remember that as a child I thought Aunt Ella called him, Willie Marr. As I started doing genealogy I learned his name was William Orr, which people pronounced R. so she was actually calling him William R. Let me know if I can help more. Myrlene
Myrlene, Marsha Boles sent a copy of your e-mail in which you said, "When I was growing up, 1937-1949, the church was no longer active and my gr. uncle and aunt lived in the old church. Their names were William Orr Gault and Ella Redman Gault." MYRLENE and ROGER, My ancestor Laura Ann (Jones) Montgomery married first William Franklin Montgomery (aka Dock Montgomery), who died during the Civil War, and second Lafayette Redman/Redmon. William Franklin Montgomery and his brothers wrote the Hames - Montgomery letters that are transcribed on http://www.couchgenweb.com/arkansas/izard/hames-montltrs.html. In the 1900 Jefferson Township, Izard County, Arkansas (AR) federal census, Laura is shown as the mother-in-law of William O. Gault. That would most likely mean that Ella M. Redman/Redmon (b. Nov. 1873) was her daughter. That would make Ella M. (Redman/Redmon) Gault the half sister of my Leona Bernice Montgomery who married John Wesley Boler. Ella's daughter Audie O. Gault would be the half niece of Leona. Also in the 1900 Violet Hill Township, Izard County, AR federal census is Octavy/Octavia (Montgomery) Gaston (b. July 1852), sister to my Leona and half sister to Ella. That would make Claud, Ollie, Vance, and Eldy all nephews/nieces of Leona and half nephews/nieces of Ella. The Hightowers are also involved with this Gault family. I would love to learn when she died and where she is buried. She is not in the 1910 federal census, unless the transcriber mistranscribed her or I missed seeing her there. Thanks Hobbs, Well the large group around Garland County Arkansas, mostly seemed to use Merriott. And some of the Texas arm of the family frequently spelled their name Merriott as well. As you point out the Ott side used Marriott most often and that is probably where I will stay in an attempt to cut down on duplication. Hi Don, Keeping the name Marriott straight is a challenge. The family of Edward M. Marriott who married Julia A. Ott with tombstones in the Alco Cemetery, Stone Co. use the spelling Mariott. Francis Marion Marriott who moved into Green Co AR seemed to use the name Mariott. Timothy Marriott who moved to Texas used the name Marriott. We understand the many miss spellings of the census takers, but find it hard to decide which name to use in our own file. Marriott was the first spelling we were given, so it is the name we tend to use. Sometimes we wonder if we should change our file to Mariott. Hi Peggy, The one you are thinking about is probably Mary Elizabeth "Betty" McCarty who married Henry Reed Clinkingbeard. Betty is the daughter of Reden McCarty and Sarah Haney. Reden is thought to be an uncle to Larkin McCarty. Henry Reed Clinkingbeard's parents were John Robert Clinkingbeard and Diannah Rimer These families lived in Fulton/Baxter Cos, very near the county line so could be listed in Fulton or Baxter Co. Hi, Ladies! I was just composing a post for Marsha to tell her I knew a COZORT family at Bixby, Oklahoma; decided to save as a draft and look in the census. Then I see "trigger-finger" Vera's post. It was the family of M. O. COZORT that I knew at church (CofC) in Bixby and they lived south of Bixby on Snake Creek during the 1950s. There were sons named Calvin, "Mo," Wayne (plus couple more). They had daughter Priscilla (b. abt. 1930) and daughter (Lora ?) a year or so older tham me. Priscilla marred gentleman we knew all of my life, David Paul WATSON, who had died before my mother did in 1993. Wayne, Mo, and Calvin were in construction business and built lots of homes during 1960s and 1970s at Broken Arrow, where they lived. Mr. and Mrs. COZORT are probably in SSDI during 1960s or 1970s. It's been several years since I've had any contact, mostly with Wayne. Seems he told me 15 years ago about one of the brothers dying, but don't remember which one. Yes, it's truly a small world ...
