Hello Jim: Dad and mom were divorced in 1935, he married Clara Hood who was 17, a yer younger than my oldest brother Vernon. They were in Illinois, so guess that's where they married. she died about March 1940 in Illinois of Consumption. He married a woman whose last name was Wolf, supposedly had a pig farm in Northeastern Oklahoma. Then he married a woman named Jo in Texas. Don't have any dates of marriages or divorces. He was an Engineer and laid pipeline in Guam, Saudia Arabia, all over South America - worked as a supervisor of a construction crew. The first time I saw him was in Tulsa, while visiting my sister. He was there maybe an hour. Then I saw him again in 1960 when my husband and I came back from Germany. He was living in Ft. Worth, TX and working at Carswell AFB as an Engineer. He had enphysema real bad and had to retire. He lived in a nursing home for about eight years before dying in 1974. I saw him maybe a dozen times in my life and needless to say, didn't really know him. My mom raised eight children by herself, she never remarried. She went to school and was in one of the first classes of Licensed Practical Nurses to graduate in Oklahoma City, OK. She was the wisest, most wonderful person in the world and NEVER complained about anything and never said a bad word about my dad. Her marker has "A woman of valor", which is very appropriate. She was my best friend and I miss her so much still. Vernon, bJul 15, 1919, died 30 Nov 2007 in Oceanside, CA Hazel, bMar 15, 1921, died 21 May 2004 in Oklahoma City, OK Dwayne, bDec 16, 1922 died 1 Aug 1983 in Euless, TX Glen, bMay 26, 1926 died 30 Aug 1999 in The Dallas, Oregon Dale, bDec 8, 1927, Drumright, OK lives in Fresno, CA Betty,bAug 26, 1931, Seminole, OK I live in Moore, OK Gerald, bOct 1, 1933, Seminole, Ok lives in Kingston, OK Bill, bDec 17, 1935, Seminole, OK lives in Choctaw, OK Mom and Dad were both born in Melbourne, AR, so were their parents. Mom's line is Jefferson Davis Dixon who married Florence Elizabeth Barnes. Dad's line is Gideon Price Bruce who married Mollie Graham Williams. Since they were all in Izard Co., AR the list has been real helpful in giving me information that otherwise I'd never have. Dr. Thomas Bruce wrote "The Bruce Web" which helped on my dad's side. Mary Cooper Miller and Joyce Walker have been so helpful with my Dixon/Cooper's. Thank you for writing. List: Thank you for all the help you have given me. Need to correct some information on my family. I had my Dad's name spelled Finis/Finas since I was told his mother said his name was French for "finish" or "the end". I had only seen it written as F.H. Bruce. Just recently my brother and I received some papers (Insurance and Employment records) that had his name spelled Finace. So, I am changing the spelling. He died Jan 4, 1974 in Grapevine, TX and my sister had promised him that she would see to it that he was buried by his second wife Clara Hood in Lunenburg Cemetery, Melbourne, AR. My brother and I had a military marker placed there, but his name is mis-spelled, since I had not learned the correct spelling at the time we got the marker. My mom, Sarah Lou Dixon Bruce died while working as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Tinker Air Force Base on May 17, 1955 and is buried at Sunnylane Cemetery in Del City, OK. Sure do appreciate the marriage license and the LDS site information. Think I also found a ggrandfather Harry Dixon married to M.S. Shuck. I had her name as Shook, with no initials - so it gives me more information for research. Have searched Ancestry.com for years and never found a thing. Vera, you, Peggy and Jim have helped so much. Hello Vera & Peggy: Thank you for the marriage information. I sent a "thank you" but never saw it on the list, don't know where it went. I do want to thank you both, this certificate has eluded me for years. I searched Izard and Independence, never thought about Baxter. I may find more information there. My mom died in 1955 and my dad in 1974 - long before I started researching family history. This list has helped me so many times. Again, thank you. June did you see in the Melbourne Times that a Gillihan was marrying an Acklin? Mom & dad get the paper every week, and sometimes I get lucky enough to swipe them, before they get trashed. gen
Nope, Wichita State University, in KS. But the way our wind blows, when it's snowing to boot, it's frigid around here. My house is in a dip, surrounded by trees, and I think it can be a good 10-20 degrees warmer in the winter time, and same for cooler in the summer. WSU is up on higher, pretty open ground, and the wind can whip through the spaces between the buildings. I think I became a bit of a noticeable eccentric with my choice of winter wear, but none of the younger kids ever said a word. Style was not in my mind in the winter time, just wanted to keep warm so I didn't perish from getting pneumonia. ROFLOL Gotta say, the kids at that school were 90% some of the greatest kids to be found anywhere. I don't think I ever had to open a door if there was a young man anywhere in the vicinity. Never had to pump gas at the station up there either, those boys must have some good grandmas teaching them the way they like to be treated, GO GRANDMAS!!! gen --- On Thu, 9/23/10, Jean M Cuevas <jeanmayfield@comcast.net> wrote: > From: Jean M Cuevas <jeanmayfield@comcast.net> > Subject: Re: [ARIZARD] Morning "Off Subject" / June's sweats! > To: arizard@rootsweb.com > Date: Thursday, September 23, 2010, 3:14 AM > Gen, > > That "WSU"....does that stand for Wisconsin State > University?? Morning You'all!! I am up early and read Gen and Jean's e-mail. Some coffee will get me going maybe.Ha! Some times i have a hard time sleeping, and i made the mistake of napping yesterday after noon and i know better. Jan just left for her school at Ash Flat. She has to be there early but this yr gets our a little earlier in the afternoon. She just goes 2 day's a week. keep's her on the ball studing though. She makes good grades, but as long as she has been out of school i don't know how. Ed did get his yard mowed and the leaves have already got it kinda messed up. Sure a reminder of fall. our humming birds are getting less, so they have begin to move south. Karen had to go to see the "bone crusher" today. She has alot of fluid on her knee, and don't know what else yet. She had a MRI and she get's the results today. Sure hope something minor they can handle with out surgery. It has really been hurting her for the past two week's. She never stops with all the animal's to take care of and works at the sale barn 2, and 3 nights a week A car, and consignment every week and a horse sale every 2 weeks. Guess i will get off an drink one more cup. We are limited any more. Betty, I am late in catching your message. I want to add my condolences, as well. There will never be anyone more precious than our mothers, and no matter our ages, or theirs, the loss is painful. God comfort you, during this time. Love, Jean C At 07:45 PM 9/19/2010, you wrote: >My mom Hattie Mildred Woodcock Barwig passed away on fri. sept 17, >2010 from a sudden illness. I used to put on a pair of sweat pants underneath my overalls to keep from freezing when I had to walk a mile + from my parking spot, to my classes at WSU. Made me a little more rolly-polly, but when I showed a couple of other ladies what I was doing, low & behold, they lifted up the bottom of their outer britches, and showed me they were doing the same thing. Thank goodness a person doesn't have to button up all the buttons on those handy old overalls. I'd wear a t-shirt under the gallusses & then a sweatshirt over the shirt & bib, both. Can't find lady overalls around here now, or I'd have me another couple of pairs.
