Thanks, Pat....but just a word of clarification.....when I got on the Microsoft website for info on how to set up Express in Windows 7, I read an answer to someone's question about the same thing and the tech had answered that question that Express did not work in Windows 7. "Outlook" is a much more comprehensive program than "Outlook Express" and there may indeed be a version of it that will work in Windows 7. It is my understanding that Express is only the mail part of Outlook...............................Harold B. -------------------------------------------------- From: "Pat Brewer" <epbrewer@fmtc.com> Sent: Friday, October 01, 2010 8:49 AM To: <arizard@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [ARIZARD] -Computer Down- Off subject > Morning All, > > Interesting to hear some of the comments here. Morning All, Interesting to hear some of the comments here. I so dislike VISTA and like many of you wish I had XP back. When I heard Windows 7 was coming out I started planning on obtaining it. Haven't yet, and now after some of the comments on here about how much some of you dislike it - WHOA - I just may back up and learn to live with what I have. I had no idea that Outlook does not work with Windows 7 - that is a bit of news I certainly didn't like. Anyway Harold glad you are up and running again, All of this makes me realize once again how bad I am at backing up things. Janice glad at least your school work was salvaged. There's a lesson here for all of us. Guess its time to turn over a new leaf and learn to live with what I have. All have a good day - I'm out of here headed to the mountains. Deer season opens in the AM, so I've been busy packing and packing more (mostly food of course), so its off I go. A great family time. We'll see how much walking and hill climbing I can still do. Everyone have a great weekend, talk to you when I get back. Morning Harold, My sympathies. I have just gone through the same thing except I lost everything on my computer. Fortunately I had all my school work backed up on jump drives so I didn't lose any of my work. I don't like the Live Mail as well as I did Outlook and I hate Windows 7. I had Windows 2000 XP, and the Office/Student version. The only thing that saved me is that one of my college classes is Windows 7. I have a textbook that I can refer to when I run up against a problem. Our course also covers Excell and Power Point. Guess if I am going to keep up with the younger generation in the job force I will have to learn them all. However, it's not easy teaching an old dog new tricks. I am blessed to have a good instructor. I did switch over to Firefox for my browser. It's a lot faster. I still have Google as my search engine. Breakfast time, then back to the books. Good luck. Hi Harold, How lucky to have computer person next door. And that he saved all your data. I am now struggling with Windows 7 and wish I had my old XP back. When my computer almost died and had to get a new one my son who is computer person transferred everything from old computer to new. No down time except learning Windows 7. Glad you are back. Well, I am back on line after about a two-week vacation, courtesy of my computer's hard drive ! It suddenly decided it didn't want to boot up so I suspected right away that it was the hard drive. I am one of those folks who was taught to turn everything off when you finished using it, so if I used my computer six times a day, I turned it on and off six times!!! Guess I just wore the poor thing out....and only 6 years old!!!!! I am very fortunate to live next door to a young computer engineer who works for a large aerospace company here in town. He took the computer, took the hard drive out and downloaded its contents onto a storage disk, then ran a recovery disk to try to get the disk working again. He was not successful, but he was able to save all my data. In the meantime, I purchased a new computer, with much more capability than the old one and at about half the price I paid six years ago!! So much for technology......great! I have spent all day getting all my programs back on the new computer...found out quickly that Outlook Express will not work with Windows 7!!!!...so went to Windows Live Mail & am learning to use that. Was happy to find that my MS Office XP would load into Windows 7 so that saves me having to buy Office again. So I am battered and bruised but not broken......(only had 300 emails in my inbox this a.m. when I finally got back in my mailbox, most of them from ARIZARD )......sure appreciate you folks and the fine work you do and enjoyed reading every one of them......glad to be back.......Harold B.
