Mullen obit2 Bettye (Gilliland) Mullen By The Wenatchee World Staff Thursday, September 13, 2012 Bettye (Gilliland) Mullen October 3, 1932 ~ September 11, 2012 Bettye (Gilliland) Mullen, 79, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. Bettye was born on the family farm in Izard County, AR on October 3, 1932, the third daughter of Orgial and Clara (Forrest) Gilliland. She graduated from Calico Rock High School in 1949. Following her marriage to Harlan Dillard, they moved to Wenatchee, WA, where she was employed as an operator for Pacific NW Bell Telephone Co. She continued her career with PNB, was transferred to Yakima, WA and promoted to the position of Service Manager. In this capacity, she traveled throughout the state, training personnel in the use of the newest equipment in communications. While in this position, she met the love of her life, John Mullen, who was also in management with "Ma Bell." Bettye and Jack were married on February 26, 1977, in Yakima. When PNB was purchased by U.S. West, they opted for the early retirement package offered by the company and began their "life of leisure." They traveled throughout the Pacific Northwest, Arizona and Canada in their travel trailer. They eventually became managers for Sunrise Resorts in Moses Lake, WA. They came to love the desert, sold their home in Yakima, and purchased one in Moses Lake. They resided there until 2005, when they relocated to Wenatchee to be near their family. Betty loved water skiing (she skied the full length of Lake Chelan and got a terrible sunburn); fishing; crafts (crocheting, quilt making, painting); board games; gaming (especially at Fitzgerald's in Reno, NV and Mill Bay Casino in Manson, WA); and her pets. Bettye joined her mother, dad and sister on September 11, 2012, while residing at Blossom Creek Memory Care Center in Wenatchee. Rest in Peace, Beautiful Lady. You are loved. She is survived by, and will be deeply missed by, her husband, John "Jack" Mullen; sister, Montine Matthews of Wenatchee; sister, Dianne Gilliland-Capdeville (Martin) of Yakima; her brother, Wade Gilliland (Marge) of Omak; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Pugliese of Yakima; as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; mother; and sister, Geneva Matthews. Private Memorial Services will be held at Wenatchee City Cemetery. Bettye requested that donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association. Please express your thoughts and memories on the online guestbook at jonesjonesbetts.com. I just heard from my daughter, said everything looked like he anticipated--and would have the biopsy back in a couple days. I just wanted to thank every.one for you input and prayers---you know we all can use all of those we can get.. You guys are a very special group to me. Harold, guess I am behind on this accident--since I was just informed on Sun., I thought it was lately, but has been awhile --so I assume they have worked thru it all now. Sorry to be a bearer of late tales, but I was just concerned for them. I finally got hold of my bro. late last night. Yes, David and Barb have the pharmcy at Ash Flat, just down from Wally World---they are such a sweet couple, and has raised a great family. I did get some more medicine for my diabetes while I take this Predisone, and just taking 1 dose haas lowered it--just 1 1/2 months more to go! Thanks again. Glenna Goodwin

Yes, Harold. The lady was referring to a very old post of Brooks and I was afraid he wouldn't see it. On rootsweb.com if you don't go back and change your email on all those posts that you do, You don't get notified when someone responds to your earlier post! I was afraid Brooks wouldn't see it and I knew that BettyBB talked to him occasionally. Thanks for the heads up about the book as well. Maybe that is something that they will update with added information sometime soon! Glenna God Bless all of you during this trying time. I, as many of us do, realize the great power of prayer, so just try to rest on those promises. I am a 12 year survivor of breast cancer, so I am walking proof that there is life after that scary diagnosis. Three years ago this month my husband was at Hardy and broke his back in 2 places. Many of you will remember my cry for prayers during that time. Again we had a miracle, as we pray for one for you and yours. My husband is dancing (we are) 2-3 nights a week and he will be 85 next month. We ask for healing for all of those hurt and comfort for those watching and waiting for their recovery. God Bless each and everyone of you. Thank you so much for your comforting words. I jknow she will be Ok--it is just the word Cancer scares us all to death. she got in early for a mammogram and as she was leaving he hostpital, a friend of hers called and said can you be at my Mom's Dr;s offfice at 2:30 today in tulsa, so she went and the next day she was in to a surgeon's for the biopsy--so you see what I mean about God's hand in it already. She hasn'thad long to think about it either, her and Hubby, Rick just got back last night form 2 weeks in Alaska--nephew's wedding--his whole family was up there--and had a great family time and sightseeing. She is holding her own good--I am very proud of her. She works at First Baptist as Church Secretary. Harold, I am waiting for my bro. to call from Co.---so it may be awhile--him and his wife run around all day. but will let you know as soon as I find out more. Glenda, My prayers are with you for your daughter and your's and Harold's other family members. How tragic this all sounds. I know that you will miss not being at your daughter's bedside but I will pray that she feels your hugs thru our Father God at the time that she is going into surgery. Let us know as you are able to how she and you are doing. For now the eagles and God will be watching out for her and giving the drs. the strenght as they preform the necessary surgery. Isaiah 40:31 May you be blessed and comforted tonight and tomorrow as you wait, and that your blood sugar will stay in a safe range. Wow Vera, you always give us something to chew on don't you? But this really has me scratching my head. These people are actually receiving these pensions based on what? Just really confused, but as always appreciate these treasurers you find. There are no more of his "Fairview Missionary Baptist Church - the First 125 years." We had a family reunion a week ago last Saturday and I took my book and many people that looked at it wanted one. I first asked Brooks in the spring and he said if there were any more the church would have them. I asked at the church and they have all been sold. They could have sold 8-10 at that reunion if they had been available.
