    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QV.2ADI/262.1.1.1 Message Board Post: The county courthouse in Batesville, AR has marriage records on computer that can be searched by name that date all the way back to 1840s & 1850s. I think I paid $.25 per copy. There is also a Batesville museum that houses the older courthouse records such as probate from 1850s, 1860s. I have the index book for probate and wills in Independence Co & Izard Co, AR if you need a name lookup. I made trip to Batesville a year ago but live in Arizona or I would help you. Usually the Family History centers ran by the LDS churches can order film of old newspapers and if you have a history center in your area they can let you know what is available on film. The films cost about $3.25 each and take about 2 weeks to receive and have to be viewed in the history center on their viewers. Also some public libraries in the areas you are searching will provide free search for obits on film if they have them. I have received numerous obits from libraries in U.S. by contacting them and as! king if they have them on film and what it would cost for a lookup and copy. Some have done the lookups and sent them to me for free, others charged maybe $1 or $2. Vital Records for the state of Arkansas should be able to provide birth or death records. You can generally find their site online which will say how old the birth and death records were kept. Hope this information helps you and others out there searching.

Are you still offering to do lookups? I was wondering if you have a record of a probate for Rebecca PEEL in Independence Co. bet 1880 and 1900. She outlived her husband so maybe she had property to leave her children. Thanks, -- Dennis M. Kowallek kowallek@iglou.com ******************
