The museum has info. on the 12 or 13 counties that made up the original Independence County. (870) 793-2121 Re: old stories about the old store at Oil Trough. You might want to contact Wilson Powell at the Batesville Daily Guard. He is the "local historian" around here and has a column (once a week, I think) in the newspaper. He might be able to help there. He is an older man and I don't know if he works full time or not. But, I've seen him feature queries and that type of thing in his column from time to time.
