Hi Nancy, Your ideas are great! Thats what I would do. When I was back there in April. I found a some general stores back there in Oil Trough,Ark (Independence County),And also a little place called Thida,Arkansas. All I had to do was mention my great granny Dora (Dorie) Ellen Tarwater (Melton) and I opened a history book! lol. So if you come across some of your hometowns Try that! it works. Your on the right track Libraries, Museums and things like that. You might be able to find something Good Luck!!!! I can think of alot more! but my brain is occupied on personal matters. When I think of em I'll let ya know. for sure! Arminta.
Talking about the old general store in Oil Trough brings family history to mind. My Grandfather and Grandmother ran that store in the early 20's and maybe 30's. My grandfather also ran the ferry and carried mail by wagon to Newport. Their names were Harvey Wesley Lucas and Alma Bessie Summers. Harvey was first married to Hattie or Mattie (mind glitch :0 ) Fuller. She and my great-grandfather, James F. Lucas, are buried in Rosie Cemetery. Just up the road from Oil Trough. That makes me think that perhaps James, Harvey and Mattie ran the store before Mattie died and Harvey married my grandmother. I don't know about that and come to think of it...I may never have asked anyone in the family. Not sure there is anyone left that would know :-< Perhaps a Fuller descendent is on this list? My eldest Aunt (still living) was born in the building that is the old general store. She was born in June of 1925. Is there anyone on the list that has any knowledge of the above? Or anyone with elderly relatives that might have a story or two about the Lucas' that had the store? I would be forever grateful for any small tidbit! Thank You, Alma ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ms.CaptainBridges" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, July 09, 2001 4:03 PM Subject: Re: [AR IND.] local research help needed > > > Hi Nancy, > > Your ideas are great!
