I'm not sure but its probable that he had a sister named Catherine. The McGuire brothers came from NC through MO to AR. While in St. Louis area ER married a Catherine Lewis then they moved to Batesville, Independence County, AR (in the early 1840's). There is an online bio for his son William L. McGuire that mentions this. (thru usgenweb.com).
