William is my husband's gg-grandfather. I have found a Mary that is about the right age in the 1870 census in the household of James and Mary Johnson, along with another child, Nancy, age 13. According to the census, James was born in TN. Unfortunately, both James and Johnson are very common names, so I haven't been able to run it down any farther than that.
