(Ca 20 years ago,No Date) LOCAL MAN DIES IN COLLISION NEWPORT--- William Keith Cobb,23, was killed Saturday when the car in which he was riding collided with a grain truck on Highway 14 at the county road 331 southeast of Newport in Jackson County, according to Jerry Nicholson of the Arkansas State Police telecommunication system. The accident occurred at 3:40 p.m. when a 1977 Chevrolet sedan driven by Donald Ray Cargile,23, of Batesville attemped to pass a 1978 International grain truck. Both vehicles were eastbound on Highway 14. The grain truck was making a right turn into county road 331 when the sedan overtook the truck,attempting to pas on the right-hand side, said Nicholson. The sedan "struck the right front of the truck, went off the road, struck a tree" he said. Cargile and passenger Joe Walker, 24, also of batesville, were injured, said Nicholson. they were transported to Harris hospital in Newport and later transferred to the White River Medical Center. Walker was reported in satisfactory condition this morning by a WRMC spokeman. Cargile was released over the weekend. Nicholson said no seat belts were in use in the sedan. The investigating officer was State Trooper Sam Gordon of Newport. Suvivors include his wife, Debbie Tayer* Cobb of the home; his parents, David and Joan Cobb of Batesville; a brother, Michael Cobb of Texas; two sisters, Tanya Cobb and Amanda Cobb of Batesville; and his grandmothers, Mrs. Theda Mae Lewis and Mrs. Ruth Wegert, both of Batesville. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Shepherd officiating.
