    1. [AR IND.] 1870 census lookup request
    2. Wilma Norton
    3. Hello I found a William Talley on the Independence Co. 1870 census index - he is living in Big Bottom Twp. - page 33 in the census. I would REALLY appreciate a lookup on him and his family. I've lost him after the 1860 census. He should be around 42 yrs old, born in TN and may have sons William, James and Samuel living with him. Also, possibly a son named John. Any help GREATLY appreciated. Wilma

I do know that William L. had a nephew William L. but he wasn't born until about 1841 (this family seemed to love the name William - everyone of the brothers had a William for a son sheesh)... I'll have to revisit it. hmm.. I've looked at the census and I only remember one William L. on it (of the right age)...but that was the 1850 census and I can't remember the month so he probably died by the census time in 1850. What's really funny is that William L. was the census taker that year. LOL. arhg. phooey. dang now I really need an old newspaper. does anyone know if there was one in the 1850's in Independence county, AR? ===== Crystal Wallace mailto:[email protected] alt mailto:[email protected] Researching: EARP(TN-MO),HARMON-CRUMP-GRINDSTAFF-SAPP-WREN(MO),MCGUIRE(NC-MO-ARK-TX),WALLACE(ILL-MO),ALLEN-BUCK-WOODBURY(ME),LOVE(NY-MI),ISTED(NY or MI),DECKER(TN-MO),JARBOE(KS-TX-MO),MOORE(TN),MORRISON(NE),HUNTER(PA-OH), HEISLER, MYERS(IL-NE), GILSON(NE), STAAL(NE), DRAPER ...more to follow :) :) :) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. No, I've just been doing surveys of cemeteries in Independence County the last two years to get online. I started out doing those with my ancestors, then added others as favors to those I'd met through the Internet who couldn't get to Independence County themselves, plus requests from others who wished they had updates to the cemeteries in the book by the Greens, and just ballooned from there. Right now, I've done about 32 cemeteries in Independence County (five of which I've still got to type and get online), including Oaklawn Cemetery (which took me two full weeks to survey--I think it had about 7500 names and I know that didn't include all of the earliest burials. Most of my ancestors are buried around the Newark/Cord area. 3. Actually, I was just at Pioneer Cemetery a few weeks ago and did a survey and there were two stones with William L. McGuire. Wm. L. died January 28, 1850, while William L. died March 26, 1856. Mary Jane was buried next to Wm. L. and Mary A. was next to William L. Several surveys of Independence County cemeteries can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/arkansas/ar-independence.html. Most were made this year and last year, while others are no more than 5 or 6 years old. 3. Jordon, Arkansas is listed on the Arkansas Highway Department Map in Marion County, North Central Arkansas on Arkansas 177, at the South End of Norfork Lake. Maps are available from the Highway Dept. at no cost Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department P O Box 2261 Little Rock, Arkansas 72203. I have found the highway dept. maps, more complete than the atlas. You can check flea markets for older highway maps that are very helpful in finding towns. 3. Well there are many, many cemetaries in Independence. Have you checked the usgenweb tombstones project page? I know there are some listed in some of those cemeteries. I know there are Bevans in White Oak (or something like White Oak). There are Bevins in another cemetery from those pages. But the best thing is to look on the 1910 census and see what area he was living in and check the cemeteries around that town/township rather than perusing the whole Independence county. Its probable that he still lived there when he died since it was only four years (unless he had just moved to TN or something). ===== Crystal Wallace mailto:[email protected] alt mailto:[email protected] Researching: EARP(TN-MO),HARMON-CRUMP-GRINDSTAFF-SAPP-WREN(MO),MCGUIRE(NC-MO-ARK-TX),WALLACE(ILL-MO),ALLEN-BUCK-WOODBURY(ME),LOVE(NY-MI),ISTED(NY or MI),DECKER(TN-MO),JARBOE(KS-TX-MO),MOORE(TN),MORRISON(NE),HUNTER(PA-OH), HEISLER, MYERS(IL-NE), GILSON(NE), STAAL(NE), DRAPER ...more to follow :) :) :) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. Hi, Odell! Thanks for your message! I had kind of come to the conclusion that it really was Carl E. and not sloppy handwriting for Charles C. - I'm always the optimist - but thanks for the confirmation. You never know what variation there might be to the name KILLMAN/KILMAN, but I don't think the KILLIAN would be a match. I see Charles SHAW in the 1910 and 1920 AR census, but don't know how long they stayed in the area. Dora Ethel's family doesn't appear to be in AR at all in 1920 (they were in 1910), and I don't yet know where they went after 1910. I don't think they all died - they're not in the 1914 and later AR death index. I guess they could've all died between 1910 and 1914, but not likely. I'm thinking that James KILLMAN, Dora Ethel's father, may have gone by Dave KILLMAN (he was James D. KILLMAN). My grandfather told me he was "Dave KILLMAN of Hickory Valley, AR". I'll post this to the AR lists also, if you don't mind - you never know who might see it that could give me a lucky break. Here's the census data I'm working off of: Census, 1900, AR, Izard Co, Franklin Township, SD 2, ED 161, Sheet 5, page 304a, line 15, 74/74: KILLMAN, James D, head, w, m, Oct 1851, 48, m, 16, KY, KY, KY, farmer, R, F, 72; Drucilla C, wife, w, f, Jun 1860, 39, m, 16, 6, 4, MO, MO, AL; Clara L, dau, w, f, Feb 1888, 12, AR; Dora E, dau, w, f, Sep 1890, 9, AR; Maud A, dau, w, f, Mar 1883, 7, AR; David E, son, w, m, Aug 1895, 4, AR. 1910 Independence Co., AR, Barren Twp., ED 25, sh. 1b, 16-18 April 1910: 12/12 James D.
