What a surprise. I am looking for any information of the family of Lucretia C. York and Willis Hargrove Thorn. They had five children born in Independence Co. before they moved on to central Texas. (I believe there were also some related Thorns living in Izard Co., as well.) All I have on this branch (no pun intended) are the names of the children and parents Father: Willis Hargrove Thorn b 1853 Montgomery Co., TN d1894 McLennan Co., Tx Mother: Lucretia C. York b 1885 (not sure where) d 1919 Dawson, Navarro Co., Tx (Daughter of Andrew York and Cynthia Harmon, sister of Martha Elizabeth (Lizzie) who may have also married a Thorn) Children: Laura T. b Independence Co, 1873 Tennessee b. Indep. Co 1874 Cora Belle b Indep. Co 1876 George Alexander b Indep Co 1882 Charlie b. Indep Co 1885 Another son was born in Texas. I have tried searching for censuses for Indep co, but they are few and far between. If anyone knows ANYTHING about this family or any other nearby Thorns, I'd appreciate the information.

    1. [AR IND.] Re: ARINDEPE-D Digest V01 #144
    2. There is a book out that has some Masonic information for the entire state. The Masons would meet annually (like a convention) and much of the business of the lodge was recorded in the Annual that they printed for that year. There are names of members in these annuals. I had not been able to determine a death date for my grandfather after much searching. No headstone, etc. He was a mason. And guess what, his death was recorded in that annual. I suggest that you go to the Arkansas History Commission in Little Rock, AR. They have copies of those annuals. Desmond Jones Allen did an index to those annuals or some book concerning the information there. Try her web site. I don't know how much family info would be in those annuals but I do know that they reported the deaths of their members. Rebecca

    3. Joanne, Regarding Masonic records, you have to know what the exact name of the group of which they were a member, general locality does not work. There can be numerous lodges and records are only kept where they belonged. I did not have any luck researching this on an ancestor who was (according to Goodspeeds) one of the first Masons in the country. Good luck.
