Hi! Does anyone have access to cemetery records or death records for 1900-1910 for Izard and Independence Cos.? I'm looking for any records pertaining to the death of Clara L. KILLMAN who died between the 1900 census, when she was in Franklin Twp., Izard Co., AR and the 1910 census, when her parents were in the Barren Twp., Independence Co., AR census. One twist is that I suppose it's possible that Clara married between 1900 and the time of her death, in which case her surname would've changed. She was 12 at the time of the 1900 census, and, had she lived, would have been 22 in 1910. Does anyone have access to marriage records that might reflect her? Clara was born Feb. 1888 in AR. Her parents were James KILLMAN b. Oct. 1851 KY and Drucilla b. 6-1860 MO. I'd be interested in the deaths of any other KILLMANs prior to 1900 - between 1884 and 1900, because, according to the 1900 census, two other children of James and Drucilla KILLMAN died during that time frame. Thanks very much!!! Mary __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Make a great connection at Yahoo! Personals. http://personals.yahoo.com
This site might help. They have Arkansas county maps from 1936 with townships on them. http://www.ahtd.state.ar.us/maps.htm
Need help from someone with a survey or township map. Am trying to pinpoint (approximate) location of two homestead farms: Macklen Anderson 32 14N 3W 40 acres. Should be in the Cord / Walnut Grove area. Joseph Thornton 30 14N 3W Could be just about anywhere in Independence Co., but think it may be west of Cord toward Gainsboro Township. The nearest town would be helpful. Would appreciate your help. Thanks very much. Thurman Anderson
Seeking any info on the family of Henry Wood JOHNSON. I know little about this man: he is a nephew to my G GF, Thomas Marion JOHNSON. Henry was son of Aaron Francis JOHNSON (1837 AL--1905 Douglas Co MO). Henry was married to Ruth Ellen Rankin (b. 3 Dec 1868 & d 29 Jan 1900). I do know Henry and Ruth lived in Independence Co at some point in their marriage together. Would like to make contact with anybody connected to this line of JOHNSON. Thank you, Judy in TX

Thanks very much. I went throught the 1880 census page by page but obviously missed it. But, with your page number, it was easy to find. Now, everything fits together. It also explains how my great grandparents, John and Ellen, met. They were almost next door neighbors! Thanks, again. Trying to find out where the parents of Polly Caroline Kirkland were married. The following is from the Harmon Family History "Peter Casper Harmon, born 27 September, 1822, to Stephan "Step" Harmon and Sarah LUSTER Harmon (Stephen William Harmon, born 1777, was married to Sarah Mary Luster on 23 July, 1799 in Greene County, TN. Sarah was born in 1780 to Miles and Emmline Luster) was first married to Polly Caroline KIRKLAND. Caroline, the daughter of Rufus and Arzada "Zaddi" KIRKLAND, was born 23 May, 1822 in North Carolina. Pete and Caroline were married in Monroe County, Tennessee, on 6 August, 1842. " Caroline Kirkland Harmon died in Indep. County, AR in January, 1860, and we are not sure of her place of burial. Pete secondly married Nancy Jane FULKS, an 18 year old woman from Izard County, on 17 May, 1860. Ancestry.Com lists the marriage, but they misspelled her name by putting a C in stead of a L. If you can believe that.

Thanks to many of you, I have just about wrapped up the Anderson segment of my research in IndCo. The Thornton line is next and I really need a lot of help or advise on where to look. Here are the highlights: Samuel G. & Mary Jane (Claughton) Thornton and their their first six children moved from Franklin Co., VA during early 1858 and settled somewhere near Cord, probably a little NW. They purchased land and set up farming. The 7th, my ggrandmother, Ellen Cromwell Thornton, was born on their farm near Cord. They were burned out by bushwhackers during 1862 or early 1863 and fled on foot to MO. Sam died there on 1 Aug 1872. Most of the children remained in MO and I have good records for them. Mary Jane had two boys, probably after Sam's death, with a CSA soldier from TN that she met during the journey north and nursed back to health: William W. and Joseph S. Thornton. They were given the Thornton name since she was not married to their father. At some point, Mary Jane took the two boys and returned to AR and successfully reclaimed their land. An unverified record lists Mary Jane as having died in Cord during 1901. Another letter says she was buried at that same cemetery as Grandpa Anderson. That would be Hopewell, but there is no readable marker for either. She had also either remarried or just took the name BRUNSON. That could have been the soldier's surname. The return AR may not have been until the early 1880's. I can find nothing on the census records, except for William W. Thornton. He was living near Cord during the 1900 census with his wife and their first 4 of 5 children (5th born 1902). All names and ages match an 80 year old letter. Ellen married my ggrandfather, John W. Anderson, at the Hopewell Church in Cord on July 27, 1879. I have good records for her from that point forward. I have a very old letter that says Joseph purchased his marriage license in Batesville and his wife's name was "Jenera." Does anyone have access to marriage license records? Or, land records so I can determine where the farm was located (was sold during early 1900's). I have a letter describing it after a 1907 visit. But, it does not tell me anything except that it was a small farm and the rebuilt cabin was abanded. Also, I can't find anything about the Brunson name. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. http://www.couchgenweb.com/civilwar/8thcavf.html At this website you will find a listing of an S.L. Morrison from Independence County, which I know is near Oil Trough. Could there be any connection to you. My great grandfather is the Samuel Stuardt (Stewart) you'll find there. http://www.couchgenweb.com/civilwar/ This is a website with Arkansas info on it. Hello, I have a page or two from a relative of a muster roll showing a list of soldiers including my gg grandfather. The unit was Captain Morgan's company, mustered July 1861 Oil Trough, AR. The problem is how to better identify this unit in terms of Regiment or company. I'm hoping I can get a kind soul to look back in the Independence County Chronicle, Vol XXVI, October 1984-July 1985, pages 55-82. On page 60 is the unit with my ancestor William M Morrison. Do the previous pages allow a better identification of this unit? Thanks in advance, Raymond Mays San Angelo, TX
